How many calories should one actually have for breakfast. I ask because tommorrow i have this awesome breakfast planned. Its my own version of the Oatmeal they serve at mcdonalds. Mine has significantly less sugar but high in calories at about 350 something. Its Oatmeal, raisins, cranberries, and walnuts.... is this okay to have this many cals for breakfast?

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day :D

I eat 6 small meals (300 cals) a day so something like that would be perfect :]

Actually, its good to have a big breakfast, because it fuels the rest of your day! I think that is a reasonable amount. Here's the general eating rule: Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper :)

It depends on your total calories allowed for the day and how many calories you are planning to have the rest of the day. If you think this is more calories than you normally have, you will need to cut out something somewhere else.

Sure why not. But since you already have breakfast planned, go ahead and plan out the rest of the meals for the day. Once it's all sitting there in front of you, you can gauge whether you can live with it or not, and tweak accordingly.

as long as you are keeping within your calorie goal I don't see why not. Go for it, enjoy every bite. I have mornings that I eat low cals (170) and then I have other mornings I eat about (300), so enjoy!!
  • Yes! that is a perfect range for the calories :)
  • This is a great breakfast and will fuel you until lunch. I eat oatmeal almost every morning and find I eat less at lunch. Enjoy. I will probably use your idea this week. It sounds wonderful.

Sounds amazing! I'm sure a McDonald's breakfast sandwich has more calories than your oatmeal.

A lot of people say that breakfast should be your biggest meal of the day since you are breaking a fast from the night before. Personally I try to have breakfast from 150 to 400 calories on a regular basis. I find that when I eat a bigger meal in the mornining I am full longer and eat less during the day.

    Enjoy you yummy meal :)

I divide my daily allotment into 6 and then divvy it up thus:

    Bkfst: 1.5
    Lunch: 1.5
    Dinner: 2
    Snacks: 1

So, if my daily allotted was 1800 cals, then it would be 300 (1800/6) and it would go:

    Bkfst: 450
    Lunch: 450
    Dinner: 600
    Snacks: 300

    That's what works for me.
