I have been seriously thinking of buying a HRM but I walk a lot (Urban Poling/ Nordik Walking) and am wanting something that will also keep track of distance and pace. Does anyone know if such a thing exists?

Yes, Polar makes one, Garmin does one, and so does Timex. They're not cheap. They run about $220- $350.

Have you tried mapmyrun.com you map out your run/walk it gives you the distance and calories burned.0

Oooh, that's a good idea. I think a simple HRM is a good idea because it tracks your specific calorie burn more accurately than a website, but gMaps pedometer is a very simple tool to track the distance you run and you don't have to sign up or anything:
