Hi,

I have a 10-year-old boy with ADD and Tourette's Syndrome. (Mostly vocal tics like sniffing and snorting.) I am looking to connect with someone who is dealing with the same issues. Thanks!

Well, I look after my son who has FAS. He shouts out, uses swear words and has behavioural problems. He's 9. Not quite the same situation but I understand how hard it can be!

Hello! I have Tourette's myself and will be happy to answer any questions you have. I was diagnosed at 3 years old so I have dealt with this my whole life:)
  • Well, glad there are a few people on here that are having similar situations. My son is 12 almost 13 and he has not been diagnosed with Tourettes but has had tics over 1 year. He is having motor and vocal tics. The motor tics are mild and his vocal tics up until now have been bearable from him and us. But the last week he has developed a new tic and he now screeches every minute or so..sometimes he can go longer but not usually. They just tried him on a new drug as of yesterday. Its called haloperidol. anyone heard of it? Does it work? Any input would be so helpful. Our family is very stressed about this right now. He is also being treated for ADHD and anxiety. So his med doc is gonna refer us to a nurologist to see if anything can be done there. Thanks for listening!

Haliperidol is the most popular medication for tourettes. It helps to reduce the tics. I cant take it because my mother gained 45lbs in a month on it so my doc wont let me but he said it does help.\

Be aware though that it is an anti-psychotic so watch for mood changes.
  • Ya I know. He is on a pretty low dose 1/2 mg at a time twice daily. I just need to get this poor kid some relief...he has been ticcing so much its crazy!!! Has anyone had any experience with Tic Tamer or kids calm?
