Hi all,

Looking to make some friends here who are also living with depression and/or anxiety issues and looking to improved-diet and exercise as an outlett to feel better. Motivation and support from people who are like-minded would be great! Especially since getting motivated can be very hard I times!

I am with you. I have been battling depression and anxiety since giving birth to my second three years ago. It is no fun and sometimes it is hard to stay motivated. I am hoping that this time around on my weight loss journey I will keep the focus and heal myself.

    We can do this!

    Hi there!

I have become extremely anxious over certain things during the past month and a half. I'm hoping starting a workout program will help me through them.

Feel free to add me :)

I find that walking a lot, stretching, and old-fashioned sit-ups and push-ups helped me feel less sad.
I tend to have bouts of occasional sadness and found that getting out in the fresh air and simply moving these old body parts clears my head and body of stress and sadness. I also pray to a loving Lord. He really helps me think things through.
    Hugs.

I was diagnosed with anxiety & depression two years ago, and while meds have helped TONS, getting on an exercise kick has given me a lot more OOMPH!

I was at my absolute worse (since diagnosis, anyway) around November, when I heard about the Warrior Dash ( www.warriordash.com ). It sounded like something I'd enjoy... it sounded absolutely insane! So while drinking entirely too much vodka, I decided to look into it. Sober the next day, it still sounded like fun, even though I've never run at all before. I knew I'd have to get in shape first. I started with just walking the dog a whole lot more, then read about the Couch to 5k Running Plan, which helps couch potatoes like me turn into runners. I've been doing that steady since the end of December, and can run two miles now. I'll be doing a Red Cross 5k at the end of March. :drinker:

I'm also doing the EA Active Sports 2 9 week program on the PS3, which is loads of fun... and I can swear at and threaten my "virtual" trainer without fear of a restraining order. And I take Zumba once a week with some family & friends. It's great to have people in it with you.

All in all, I have sooooo much more energy now, and I feel more myself than I've felt in years. It's hard to push yourself to get going, but after that, it snowballs. It's basic physics: An object at rest will stay at rest, and an object in motion will stay in motion.

Welcome! You have a lot of friends here to help!! & talk to!!! :)
  • hi there, I'm in the same boat, on anti-depressants/anti anxiety drugs for 10 years. Losing weight does make a difference, but in my case it's clinical so it can creep up on you anytime and it makes staying motivated and positive difficult. Sometimes I want to eat my own weight in food for comfort, especially during the difficult times, on those days I try to get out and walk to get fresh air and exercise. Looking back at my 'before' pictures helps a LOT, because I don't want to go back there. please add me if you'd like support x

I've been on meds for a little over 5 years, mostly for anxiety, but depression seems to go hand in hand. I went through a really rough couple of years from the time I realized something just wasn't right, to finally getting on the the right meds and dosage. I've actually felt pretty normal for the last few years although sometimes I feel like the meds make me feel emotionless. Lately it seems like they may not be working quite as well and I often don't feel "present" if that makes any sense. I have an appt to see my Dr this week to discuss maybe trying new meds, although I'm a little scared to rock the boat! I currently take wellbutrin and remeron. Remeron caused me to gain a lot of weight, and that's why I'm here.

Hey! I was diagnosed with Depressoin when I was 18 and Obsessive compulsive disorder (which is an anxiety disorder for those who weren't aware) when I was 25. I am now 31 so that's quite some time dealing with these symptoms. I have been on and off meds for years and currently am "on". I definetely see a connection between my exercise and my moods. I feel sooooo much better when I get a good workout in, and on days I lack motivation to go to the gym I remind myself of how much better I will feel when I am done.
Anyone feel free to add me :-)

I have dysthymia and have had bouts of major depression to the point of almost ending it one day in '05. Throw in SAD, OCD(oral fixation) too. Used to get a lot of anxiety but some other life changes fixed that(i'm an Introvert and learned to take care of myself in that regard, part of that '05 bump too). Exercising and watching what eat is all I have. Can't take meds since most make me want to jump off a bridge and my prior bump in '05. Getting some things like my vitamin D deficiency fixed has also helped.

Thank you everyone for your responses! This really is a wonderful and supportive community to be a part of.

There's a comfort in knowing that I'm not alone in this... we can get through it together! :flowerforyou:
