I heard some news about a few protein powders in the market that have heavy metals in their supplements. I'm not sure as to how true this is, but just to be on the safe side, does this type of protein powder exist - organic without any heavy metals?

Thanks so much in advance!! :)

I don't know about the metals...Well I read one article a way back about Muscle Milk having metal in them..but I can't remember if the source was good or not.

I LOVE the spiru-tein protien powders.

They don't have as much protein in them as some products do, but what I love is that their flavors are awesome and that they have almost 100% of daily vitamins in them too. Plus they mix up really well and aren't gritty like some.

There is a Consumer Report issue out on Food and Health and it analyzes this - there are SEVERAl Protein powders with arsenic, mercury and other heavy metals. There are 3 it lon the list that are very low. I am sorry I don't remember the names because they aren't familiar. I didn't buy the magazine because it included lots of processed food info and I am trying not to eat that! But I do remember that of the common names Jillian Michaels was the lowest.

Also I was at a nutrition session with a trainer from the club I belong to and he is a big fan of the Paleo/Primal diet and has trained with Charles Poliquen (you can google him) He recommended whey protein from New Zealand but didn't say why, perhaps because of the metals. He said there are only 3 or 4 sources of whey protein in the US so it is very possible they are all contaminated. The Poliquen website does sell some kind of protein powder.

This trainer also talked about supplements and said many of them are not pure, including things from a health food store He mentioned a company called Metagenics that has very high quality supplements and maybe protein but it is usually only available in a medical setting.

I myself haven't purchased any yet. I think I am going to meet with a local homeopathic doctor my mom has worked with. He is very selective about the supplements and he sells Metagenics stuff.

    Good luck!
