Im 5'5 and 158 (UGH).. I have been working so HARD.. last week I actually GAINED 3 lbs.. and it was NOT my TOM.
This is my second week of getting back into things.. Last week I went to the gym 6x and did 45-60 min either running or eleptical and then I also started a weight class which is one hour two times per week. As I was seeing no results last week.. this week I started South Beach diet and started drinking more water in addition to the exercise. Im so scared to weigh next Monday! I mean if the scale doesnt go down I wil feel like "whats the point?"

I want to get down to about 130..and I have heard that the less you have to lose the longer it takes.. I also heard that you start building muscles you might weigh more (although for me my clothes are still tight) and I also heard that when you first start a routine your muscles hold onto mor water or something..

How long did it take for you all to see some results? Thanks

One to two months. Check out my progress pics on my profile. I take new ones pretty regularly.

I've been on this for a month and it took about a month for me to see visible results. Maybe make your food diary public so people can see what you're eating and see if it needs tweaking? Believe it or not, sometimes it is about what you eat!

I just finished Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred and I lost 10.6lb after 30 days and inches all over. I blogged about it everyday and I've posted my results last week so check it out if you like. It's a great strength training workout which you can incorporate with your cardio! Don't give up, you will see results if you keep it up. I saw myself gained weight in the 30 days, too. Just a lb here and there but then I'd lose it the following week!

I am about the same weight and it is taking me forever to lose this last 20, but take your measurements I am taken new pics today, I have lost 2 inches on my waist in the last 2 months but only 2 pounds!

I'm in pretty much the exact same position as you--started about 160, trying to get to 130. I got down to 155. I've been at it a month and feel as though nothing is changing--my clothes aren't looser, my measurements haven't gotten smaller, my weight has been...stagnant, at best. So I'm curious to hear your responses, I keep hoping that I will wake up one day and all the work I am doing will have kicked in overnight, but alas, so far nothing. I posted a 'what's the point' type thing last week (because I was horribly depressed about it) and the response I got was very supportive.

Best of luck to you and I hope things start happening for you soon!

Girl I have been hearing stories about how we shouldn't expect too much within the first 3-4 weeks. (It blows I know) Don't give up and make sure yo eat all of your calories and definitely load up on that water! Hell I drink sometimes until I pee clear! It will happen. You sound like you are doing the right things. Keep measuring as well.

Thirty pounds should take at least four months at two pounds per week. More than that is unhealthy.

Even though it isn't your TOM, there are still several reasons why you could be retaining water. I'm extremely sensitive to salt intake and so have gotten used to seeing my weight fluctuating daily even though I have been good boy diet-wise. Keep in mind that there is basic science involved here: if you are eating less calories than you expend, you WILL lose weight. How much, how fast depends on how large the gap is.

If you don't see any movement after a weeks time, then you need to re-evaluate your goals and log recording. Dieters are notorious in under-reporting the amounts they eat and OVER-reporting the amount they exercise. It is easy to find yourself on a 'maintenance' diet instead of a 'loss' diet if you are not brutally honest about your portions and workouts.

Keep at it, and GOOD LUCK on your next weigh-in!
