The Shaky ground of Fat Burners...

So I know I may be treading shaky waters by asking this question.. everyone seems to have varying views on the use of "Fat Burners" and diuretic supplements, but I would like to know what you all think...So,
Do you use one and if so what kind?
Has it worked for you?
If your a trainer/dietician, do you reccomend? Why/Why not
Any reccomendations/Warnings/ or tips?
I just started taking a Jillian Michaels brand, I have to say I feel a little weird, but we will see how it goes

I personally avoid them at this point in my life, and in the past when I used them they really didn't seem to help. In their fine print they usually have something to the effect that they work as part of a calorie reduced diet. Then the question becomes, is it the diet (very likely) or the fat burner (not as likely). The only one I know worked, at least for a time was the ephedra, caffeine, aspirin mix (IIRC) which had the very dangerous side effect of causing heart problems even in healthy young people including causing some deaths. It worked for a while because of the two stimulants that were part of it. Eventually your body would get used to the stimulants and you would likely have to take more, increasing the risk of death.
I have not researched the current crop of fat burning pills out there, but I remain skeptical that a pill can help while remaining safe. I could be wrong though, and maybe they have discovered something in the years since I used that sort of thing.0 -
I ask that question and it turned out to be a loaded question. Apparently many people on here believe you should do it fully on your own, well at least thats the responses I was given to my post. If your talking about taking a pill instead of changing your eating habits and working out then no I don't believe you should do it. Your not changing old habits so how would you maintain your weight once you lost it. I do however believe it is normal to feel frustrated and want the extra boost. I feel frustrated and think it would be nice to boost my metabolism and burn off my fat since I have lots of weight too lose. I have personally not tried any yet but thought about it.0

I did one round of those Jillian Michaels pills... both the red and blue bottles (can't remember exact names right now). I didn't take as much as they recommended though. I would never use pills as a substitute for diet/exercise... I totally changed my eating habits in addition to taking them and have always exercised so whose to say if the pills really helped or not. I don't have any clue as it might have just been the dietary changes... but they certainly didn't hurt. Once I finished those I went to Planet Nutrition (they sell supplements, protein powder, etc) and asked the person in there to recommend something. Now I'm taking Lipodrene.... two pills/day... one before breakfast and one with lunch. It has a small amount of Ephedra in it but not enough to cause any noticeable side effects for me.
I know some people will preach "no pills" yadda yadda yadda but to each his own. If I am not experiencing any side effects and the pills help me in any way to reach my goals... then great!0 -
I've had pretty good results using fat burners, but I feel like a lot of the weight I lost using them has been water weight, due to their diuretic nature. I've used Ripped Fuel, Hot Rox, Lipo 6, Stacker 2, and Red Line, and the only one I'd buy again would be Lipo 6, but it definitely makes you feel jittery at times. Not more jittery than some good, strong coffee, but a lot of people don't like that feeling. At around $40 per month, it's pretty expensive, for a supplement.
I think you can lose almost as much by keeping to a strict diet, and I ate very low amounts of carbs when I was on them, but they really help lose those last couple of pounds if you're really trying to push your body. Are they worth it? Probably not. You might burn a hundred extra calories per day, but that won't amount to much in the long run, and you'll gain it all back when your body starts storing all the water that was lost when on the fat burners.0 -
ah i might get attacked for this one but...I have been using SlimQuick Naturals and really love them. I like them more so for the energy I get rather than any results...I can't tell if they work on weight loss or not because I workout and diet at the same time. I really think these pills work based on an individual basis, I can't believe there is 1 pill for everyone. However, the Naturals work for my body chemistry and even if it's a placebo effect...then it's good enough for me!0

All great opinions.... Today was my 3rd day on the Jillian Michaels fat burner and so far I'd have to say I have mixed feelings. The first day I experienced almost like a crash feeling... but today was better and I had ZERO cravings..had to force myself to eat. My thinking is of course i'm doing lots of exercise and have been on a reduced calorie diet.. I just want the "boost' if I can get it. My mind works in a way that if I don't see results i get discouraged, so I'm just looking for the push.....0
