I joined MFP in January 2011 after starting the Power 90 program.
The last few years have been very stressful for many reasons, and I was a comfort eater.
I was having a hard time catching my breath with minimal exercise, my joints were starting to hurt, and my BP was going up.
My belly was starting to look like something I always said I'd never have.

My 16 yr. old son also has fought weight issues most of his life.
He had a serious disease when he was 5 and was on steroids for what seemed like a very long time.
Ever since then, he's always had a ravenous apetite, and could never lose weight.
His doctor recently mentioned P90. So my son asked me if we could both do it together, as he needed the support.

So on January 4th, 2011 we both began P90.
It is now day 30. We have both worked out 6 days a week, and have totally changed our eating habits for the better.
After 28 days, I have lost 14.4 pounds, and my son lost 15 pounds.

Now, you need to know that I absolutely HATE seeing myself in pictures, and it's extremely tough for me to share these with the world.
But I do it for 2 reasons.
1. It holds me accountable (even though we can hide in our homes when we work out)
2. It will hopefully encourage others and prove that this DOES work if you make a commitment FOR yourself! Even at 51, it's never too late. This isn't some fake infomercial.

My day 30 pictures show a modest change, but I'm very happy with my progress.
My measurements are down, I have more energy, I've gone through (so far) the first winter in many years not being depressed, and my blood work showed all my cholesterol numbers in the normal range for the first time in as long as I can remember (and that is after stopping Lipitor 3 months ago). My BP has dropped a ton, and my doc is very very happy with my progress. And so am I.

All this in just 30 Days! I'm excited to start the next 30 and see where it takes me!

So here goes............

Great job Mike! Thanks for the inspiration :)
  • Wow you look FANTASTIC! I have P90x and have only gotten through day 3 before I quit :( I have a couple friend of mine thta would get up at 430 am and do p90x and it WORKED for them! My girlfriend lost allll her baby weight and more, and her hubby - our friend of 12 years - has always been chunky and I never saw him skinnier! Insane. Problem is, it's very time consuming during the week and I just CAN'T get up at 430 am! UGH. By the time I get home from commuting from the city to home during the week afgter work, then eat dinner, clean up, check mail, feed dog, etc. I'm exhausted and it's 8 p.m. I just don't want to do an hour plus of P90x. BUT I'm thinking, especially after looking at your picts, I may have to bite the bullet and wake up early to get it done. You look fantastic, keep up the good work, and thanks for sharing the picts!
  • Well , Mike ..... I ordered power 90 Saturday so I should see it in the next few days or so . I'm eager to begin , I just need to get my hand on the equipment I'll need . The hardest thing for me will be eating enough . I'm 6' and about 150 . I'm very skinny so I hope my 30 days goes as well as yours did . Stick with it !!! I'll post on the regular here myself for accountability until then .

Thanks everyone. It wasn't easy putting these pictures out there. I'm a very shy guy and very personal. If it helps me and others, then it was worth it.

OLP76.....I see your doing double workouts (3-4 in morning and 1-2 in evening). That's some serious commitment! Please let us know how your doing and share some pics if your brave enough :noway:

ThinkingskinnY....There was no way I could have started with P90X. Some get that mixed up with Power 90. Power 90, which I am doing is much easier. Workouts take under 45 minutes and aren't as intense. I was (still am) not in shape to do X. If you feel it was too much for you, I seriously recommend doing P90. I hear of too many people starting with X and quitting. I never exercised before, so that's why I started here. It was/is a serious challenge for me. My heart rate still gets up there and I need to press pause at times. But I know I'm doing much better than day 1. So give it a try! You'll love it!

Greg711.....That's great that your about to start. Please keep in touch and friend me if you'd like! It comes with the elastic band which is all you really need. However, honestly, I've never used it because I think I'm too tall for it (6'5"). Just pick up a couple dumb bells. Don't delay....Just Press Play!
