Does anyone know if the natural sugars in fruits are as harmful to weight loss as refined sugars that you would get in processed foods.
I just added watermelon to my food tracker and I knew it was really sweet, but it has many more sugar grams than I thought it would.

watermelon!!! yum!! (me licking my lips)
from what i understand, fruit sugars are not bad when controlled and used in moderation. BUT they still are calories, yet with good stuff too0 -
fruit sugars are simple sugars...which believe it or not, are the same as "candy" sugar (simple sugar is simple sugar, no matter if it is in a candy bar or a fruit). The only difference is....is with the watermelon you getting other nutrients with those sugar calories. It's called nutrient density. If you have a candy bar with 100 g of sugar and an apple with 100 g of sugar the apple is going to have more nutrient density. Meaning that either way your getting 100 g of sugar...but with the apple your getting soluble and insoluble fiber, vitamins, etc. With the candy bar your just getting sugar and fats. But either way they both have simple sugars. Hope that helps!0

fruit sugars are still sugars and you should limit them, but you can still have your watermelon! we need fruits, and a variety of them, to get our daily nutrients.0

Agree with what all have said so far--even fruit in too large quantities is not good.
That said, I do know that as a diabetic natural sugars have no way near the effect on my blood sugar as refined sugars.0 -
My understanding is that the sugar in fruits and honey (fructose) is easier on your body (uses less insulin??) than the sugar in candy (sucrose, derived from sugar cane or corn). I don't worry about the sugars in fruits as long as I'm not eating enormous amounts of them. If you stick to around 3 servings spread throughout your day, you should be fine.0
