My problem is that every elliptical, every treadmill, every exercycle at the gym gives you a different number for calories burned during a 30 minute workout. It doesn't matter that you set the machine for the same speed or level. It also doesn't matter that I am listening to the same music on every machine, and stepping to the rhythm.
So how can I be sure that I am meeting my daily goals, if they all give a different number for calories burned?

Yes, get a HRM. You don't have to spend a fortune. I use one from New Balance, no chest strap needed, and it is about $45. Girl colors, but I am sure they have men's watches.

Heart Rate monitor is definitely your best option. But there is no "accurate" way outside of medical testing. Everything is just an estimate based on the amount of work you're doing and your weight/height.

    Polar FT4.
  • @Nine, They give you a different number of calories burned because there are different levels of resistance on different muscles per machine. There may also be a difference in the weight or program parameters you are using as presets per machine. Now if you are saying that Each treadmill set exactly the same gives you a different readout that is calibration issue with the machine..Tell your Gym management.
