Not sure whats going on this time around. I just cant seem to get a handle on what i have to do to get this thing back on track. Its almost like i dont want to do this anymore. I know that there is a lot of things going on in life right now, but thats no excuse. I have nobody to blame but me on this. I feel like writting an obituary on the death of all my efforts and accomplishments from last year. I had lost over 80 pounds and now i am only down about 40. Thats a gain of 40 pounds back. Or as i like to see it, a little less than a 44 pound bag of dog food. I measure everything in dog food bags for some reason. I have tried to run and eat good, but manage to fall off the wagon after a few days. I have so much going that is good in my life that i cannot understand what it is that is holding me back. The effort isnt there anymore and sometimes i feel that i am pushing to be something that i am not. I know that i will never be a skinny person, a lover of running, or someone that cannot function without my morning workout. All that i am looking to be is someone that isnt overally huge, someone that can run if i want to, and someone that eats a balanced meal without eating the whole table full. Need some help, motivation and a lot of fingers crossed.

  • What you have to understand is that being healthy and fit is a journey not a destination.

So you can not "fall off the wagon" because life goes on. You have NOT failed. You have just eaten something that is not as healthy for you as something else may be.

    That's it.

    Don't sweat it.

Consistently over time yields results. If you are consistently eating better and exercising, you will reach a normal, stable, easy to maintain weight.

Don't think about it in pounds.

Think about in how you feel.

Think about how it feels to be carrying around that 40lb bag of dog food. That you can never put it down. That you have to bare that weight every hour, everyday.

Think about how good it will feel to be stronger, healthier and lighter.

But also know that its NOT just about the weight. Its about living a longer healthier life, free from serious disease(diabetes, heart disease) and getting to see your kids and hopefully grandkids some day.

You're going to be doing good things so that you can be there to enjoy life.

If you one day you want a piece of cake, have the piece of cake. Just don't eat the whole cake. A piece if really usully enough. Enjoy the texture, the taste, the frosting. Have lots of small bites.

And educate yourself. Learn what works for you. Learn how much calories and fat a piece of cake has.

Part of this is learning how you got here and how to get yourself to where you want to be. If you do not learn from your mistakes by educating youself on how to do better, how can you grow as a human being? How can you sustain weight loss and be healthier?

There's a really great book that I read, called "women food and god" by gene Roth. She says in the book that "its not about the food, but its not not about the food".

Which basically means that even tomorrow you were 40lbs lighter, you'd still have all the problems in your life that you have now. You are a complete person. Being lighter doesn't change your situation.

Anyway, there is a LOT of support here. Do what works for you. If 1200 calories(or whatever mfp) recommends is too little, add a little more.

If you can only exercise a few days a week do that. Doing something is better than doing nothing.

But stop beating yourself up because you think that you've failed youself. If you have a few bad days each month where you eat badly, get back on track and eat better.

To lose or gain a lb of fat, you have to consume or lose 3500 calories. Most of us on here aren't even eating that many calories a day. So if you slip up at one meal or have a desert, you're probably okay in the long run. Just be concious about what you're eating.

I can't eat the same stuff I used to. I get sick to my stomach. My body wants better, so I give it better. You'll get there.

I love that you measure "SUCCESS" in terms of dog food bags. As for me, I think I will start with something more attainable like 20lb turkey (thats just me). You dont need luck, you just need to dedicate yourself. Also as stated above this is a journey, you are learning new skills for a new you and training yourself to just be healthier. Another thing that I'd like to mention is "you can't go back and change yesterday, but you can always start fresh today", maybe keep this in mind if you fall off the wagon one day....there is always tomorrow. Learn from it, then shake it off and move on.... YOU CAN DO THIS!
