Hello MFP peeps lol. Just wondering if y'all can tell me which Yoga DVDs you like to do from home. Its hard for me to make it out to our local yoga studios because of time AND the fact that it is expensive is another. I've only done yoga a few time and really enjoy it and wanted to make it a regular thing. Anything you all can share would be great! :) Thanks

If you have Dish Network there is a channel, 9403 BYUTV, that has a regular daily hour long workout with no commercials called TOTAL BODY WORKOUT. The insturctor incorporates Yogo, strength & cardio workouts each week. The workouts are great and she is an excellant Yoga instructor & best of all it doesn't cost anything extra other then your monthly TV bill. I recommend it highly.

I agree with the Jillian Michaels suggestion, Yoga Meltdown. Also, Baron Baptiste -- I have his power vinyasa yoga DVD titled Abs, Back & Bliss. I'm on the hunt for more of his DVDs now. :)
  • I take yoga classes as well at a studio, but my alltime favorite it Shiva Rea: Daily Energy - Vinyasa Flow Yoga .

Also, there is a website that has tons of taped yoga classes that are awesome. A lot of instructors use this for their own private practice. It's called Yogaglo www.yogaglo.com. I think it's $18 monthly fee for all you can stream. I love the varieity and you can find classes that fit your schedule for how long you want to practice as well as level. There are even some 5 - 10 at work videos as well. All of the instructors are very good.

My yoga newsletter just came to me this morning and this is what Cathy, my instructor says about home DVD's:

"One of the things I look for in an instructional yoga DVD is how well it is cued. Meaning, are directions clear and given step by step or do you find yourself constantly looking up from the pose at the TV to check your alignment? The following are ones I have used or viewed and found I really don’t need to look up at the screen. It is always a good idea to just watch the DVD through the first time before practicing:

The Yoga Zone with Alan Finger (several DVD’s to choose from)

    DVD’s by Lilias Folan

Peggy Cappy Yoga for the Rest of Us

Rodney Yee AM&PM Yoga (Other titles available as well)

Books to help learn more about Yoga

    Yoga for Dummies/Yoga for Idiots

Moving into Stillness by Erich Schiffman

Essential Yoga Poses by Judith Lasater"
  • Wow, Thanks so much everyone for the responses. I will definitely have to try a bunch of these :)

Guys, yoga meltdown, is that a bit more high impact than ordinary yoga? I was thinking of doing this on my weekly rest day when I don't really workout, but try to burn some calories doing extra walking and housework etc. Is the meltdown dvd too high impact for that?

I like Rodney Yee's A.M. Yoga. It has 5 different 25 minute routines to do first thing in the morning. I do it on the mornings that I work as soon as I get out of bed. It's a great way to start the day and really helps with muscle soreness from the prior day's workout.
