How do I survive the gym mirror?

This must be something someone out there can relate to. I go to exercise classes in a room which has a massive mirror at the front. I try to hide behind other people but sometimes they move and I catch a glimpse of myself in full wobbly glory and it's all I can do to stop myself running out of the room in tears! I know I should feel good about myself just for being there but it's so humiliating being the largest there with least excuse for having let myself get that way (no kids, relatively young, no disabilities or illnesses!)
I know the only thing I can do is just keep going but it'd be nice to know others feel the same way. :blushing:

I am a triathlete and a certified spinning instructor and I can tell you I truly hate the mirrors and I am not heavy.
When I see a curvy girl in a class, I notice one thing, that they are almost always working harder than the skinnies. The kicker is that a lot of the thin girls in my classes are in HORRIBLE cardiovascular shape. Big difference between thin and fit. Now, if talking on a cell phone and smacking their gum were a sport, they would be Olympians.
My suggestion is this, instead of trying to hide from the mirrors and everyone else, look yourself in the eyes and recognize that you are strong enough to do something about your problem. And as long as you can see yourself, you have not quit. Do NOT quit because loosing weight and gaining fitness will never be easier than it is today. You only get older from here so stop the bleeding now.
.....Dance like there is no one watching and love like there is no tomorrow.0 -
I avoid mirrors (and windows that have reflections) like its my job!0

I hate the mirror at classes too and I'm only 5 lbs from my goal! I think everyone thinks they look stupid when they watch themselves no matter what size or skill level:) I always try to get to zumba a little early so I can get a spot in the back hopefully behind someone. And remember most people are watching the instructor and not you or else they get messed up! And this is just one person's opinion, but I honestly just think "awesome for you!" if I see someone who needs to lose a few pounds. They usually are working harder than me and I admire that they are doing something positive to be healthier.0

AMAZING!!! You go be you. Do it for YOURSELF not them. That is where I am today. I too HATE seeing my in the mirror but you know what that is why I am there. Because I HATE the way I look. You are changing it. And I agree the bigger people at my classes are always putting in way more effort then most. Good for you for going!!!0 -
Thanks everyone  that's really helped me feel better - I'll keep going and remember your advice!0
