Green Tea - powder or brewed for benefits?

I drink about 2-3 L of green tea daily, but its the powdered Lipton green tea that comes in a can and I put about 3 TBLS of powder per 1L of water. I want to know if anyone has heard that this has less benefits than brewed green tea as far as antioxidants as well as weight loss benefits (i've heard green tea helps you lose weight)?

Thanks!

That powdered stuff...what else is in it? It can't be good. I'll bet it's artificially sweetened too.

I would stick with all natural no additives stuff. That's just me. Lots cheaper too. You need to try to wean yourself off sweet flavors. You taste artificial sweeteners like sugar and you never really get used to natural flavors. Artificial sweeteners are just bad. Do some online research about them.

I think you're supposed to have the brewed kind for the health benefits.

I do lipton hot green tea bag, after each meal. I'm unsure about the powders though...but that is my thoughts...

Lipton is pretty crappy tea - I was told by an Indian man, super old and almost blind - that Lipton actually buys the "leftovers" from the tea companies in Pakistan, etc. No idea if it's true or not, but I believe it. It's not good quality stuff.

    Yeah stick to natural.
The powdered stuff has added sugar and other things. I've had the powdered one and while it's convenient there's nothing better than the real stuff.
If you're worried about brew time and all that good stuff, just pop some water in a mug for a couple minutes and toss the tea bag in. My dad is addicted to green tea and that's how he's started brewing his.
OR if you have a small coffee maker brew it using that.

Powdered green tea is called "matcha" in Japanese. I'm not sure about the American brands, but real matcha has the same kind of benefits as the leaves. Matcha is traditionally used on special occasions and events in Japan, whereas Sencha (the most common leaves) is commonly used for every day drinking. :) If you're going to spend money on an American brand that is more than likely overly processed with added ingredients, I would definitely spend money on the REAL leaves that you brew yourself.

All of the info you want about green tea can be found at www.o-cha.com. They also have a shop and a green tea starter kit that you can purchase if you want to give it a shot.

Thanks for sharing - very interesting. Also I like your profile photo even though I usually like seeing people's faces - funny quote!
