I love cottage cheese so much but it is so high in sodium. Has anyone found low sodium or sodium free cottage cheese and does it taste the same?!?

i want to know too!!! I don't eat meat, so this was one of my "go-to" protien supplements, but....I also have high blood pressure, So...cottage cheese is kind of out now.
  • Good question..I recently realized the amount of sodium in cottage cheese, and also skim milk! Sad...look forward to the responses.

Breakstone makes a low sodium and low fat version. It's fairly new. I love it.
90 cals for 1/2 cup and 1/3 less sodium.

How much sodium does US cottage cheese have. Just looked at mine from Tesco UK and it 2 grams per 100 which is nothing really if you only eat 100gms a day..which would be quite a large portion. I eat a lot of cottage cheese. I'm not going to worry about the sodium because not many of the other foods I eat have much. I think its all about finding a balance. Cottage cheese is a good source of protein & also very adaptable to both savoury & sweet.

I got mine at Hannafords, haven't looked at walmart yet. Market Basket didn't have it and those are the only supermarkets I have aroung here.

In 1/2 a cup for 80 cals its roughly 400-500 mg. Well I get 1% milk fat.

The walmarts around here definitely do not have it. As for the friendship I might have to try randalls they generally have a good selection of dairy! Thanks

Yes I get that but you just ad a nought or two..its the percentage I go on.....
around 2% sodium in ours..yours appears to be from 2.9% up to 4 or 5%..way higher.

Yes, it's the only 1 I have since the regular one is nasty. I go to shoprite there is store brand and another one called friendship. There might be more, but those are the ones I've had.
