Self-Accountability.. grr.

yeah, okay I'm one of those horrible people that I'm back and forth, on and off, here and gone, up and down...... AAACK!
I need a way to hold myself accountable that I will actually stick with. more with the working out than the food part. I can keep within reasonable calorie range if I'm working out.
I thought about doing something on my blog, but then something comes up and I miss and then .. guess what? all done. I thought about doing a group forum kind of thing with other people who would have to report in daily but again... maybe? perhaps if there were other people to "answer to", in a sense. Even something to look forward to. But that's not really being SELF accountable.
I'm pretty extrinsically motivated when it comes to things like this and I'm getting a little frustrated at my own repeated lack of commitment. I'm sure I'm not the only one. What have others done to mitigate this personal challenge in their lives?

Unfortunately there is only one person who can make you accountable for your health. There is no trick to it, it has to become part of your life, not something that comes and goes. You have to make time for it every day until it's an automatic process. If you don't it can be left out and neglected.0

In the message boards there are some threads where people join together and do monthly or weekly goals. Look around and find one, or start one on your own. That might help you want to log on more and get in the habit of getting on MFP a few times a week, if not everyday. It helped me to more involved in MFP before I really got a good sense of what would work for me with exercise and food. I didnt know anything about eating well or exercise before I started to talking to other people on here and asked them to give me advice and support.
Also, dont put so much pressure on yourself. If you miss logging on for a few days, dont make yourself feel so bad about it. If you dont get to workout one day or dont eat very well one day, you cant just throw it all away and give up. Think about it, 20 days of dieting in a month are better than none!~!~!~! It might just take you some time to get into the swing of things.

I'm here pretty much daily, I log my cals, exercise and respond to or generate posts fairly often. So, overall, as far as MFP goes, I'm pretty consistent. What I'm NOT consistent with are my workouts which is going to get me NOWHERE.
If you read my blog, you'll see some of my history as to why I've gained weight to begin with and some of my various ranges of frustration, failures, successes, traumas, etc... lol. It's been a long year. Ultimately though, *my* success lies almost solely in work outs because it's not even weight at this point so much as it is shape & condition.
My shape (in clothes) isn't horrendous... but nothing fits currently, I'm used to being 3 sizes smaller than I am, everything is soft, flabby, gooey flappy junk. It's pretty gross and it's more apparent on me (and anyone else who has a similar stature and build) than it is on alot of people. I feel kind of like moldy jello.
So yeah.. it's the whole not being in a gym or having a personal trainer or work out buddy... it gets to me. Alot more than it should. *sighs* And I let that feeling of non-workout-buddy-havin' win too often. :grumble: :sad:0 -

Sis what you are experiencing right now is probably the root and if you'd like my feed back i'd say stop giving yourself second best. Love yourself enough to commit probably the way you probably would for someone else. I don't know you personally but I relate to what you have said here and if you are anything like me (not saying you are but maybe something I share will help you). I give others my best and save the scraps for myself. You have to hold yourself accountable. I have found for me that when someone holds me accountable sometimes it's affective but i'm a great manipulator so when I DON'T WANT TO BE ACCOUNTABLE I WON'T BE. Take baby steps........give yourself a goal to reach. Since the working part is the hardest part of your commitment then start there. Make a promise to yourself that you will dedicate atleast half an hour every single day to some sort of physical activity I don't care if it's just cleaning out your fridge. Just making yourself used to knowing you are taking 30 minutes out of a 24 hour day isn't much to ask of your time for you to love you. I think you have an awesome story to tell and it's just waiting for you to fall in line with all the success waiting for you, so you can share that story with someone else who REALLY needs to hear it. I imagine if dark forces can keep you in a state of complacency and not on fire for your success they win. But see that's a big fat FAIL on their part because the best thing you can do is fight it with words of honesty. The strength to admit your struggle and the desire to do something about it. HOLD YOURSELF ACCOUNTABLE by beginning with baby steps. give yourself some time with yourself. and don't lay your head down until you do. Be brave and just make the vowel.......infact right up a contract, sign your covenant and post it up. Wishing you all the best! hugs0

nubreeze - you hit on more than you realize; there is a long story in this riddled with selfishness, guilt and selflessness to the point of detriment. I suspect you get it.
I like the self-contract idea; I may try that. :-) Promises are a big deal in my world; and a written promise... man, you'd best be on your deathbed if that gets broken! Or even just a daily reminder "did you keep your promise today?".
