So I had this weird brown discharge a few days back while I was exercising. It seemed like blood but it was in a very small amount plus I already had my period. I ignored it then but I'm still getting it from time to time specially during/after a workout and it's still very light. I asked my mom and she thinks it's just old blood. However, I'm super worried! Could this be due to excessive exercise? Because I did start to workout heavily for the past few weeks. Anyone else ever experienced it? I just want it to get back to normal so I can do my workouts properly!!!

I haven't experienced it, but honestly i would go to the doctors to make sure you are ok

Spotting as long as its not accompanied with pain is ok. Some ladies will experience spotting. Some lose their cycle. Its common.
  • There's no pain, thankfully. Should I stop working out for a few days?

If you are on the pill and you are NOT super consistent on when you take it, spotting is really common. Has it been more than one month? If it continues you should contact your doctor, but it's probably fine.

I have had a hysterectomy...so I am happy to say uterus free..lol. But, as far as your situation..have it checked. I used to have that happen. Mine was due to cysts in my ovaries. As your Mom said, old blood. This said, you should check into it for safety sake. I ended up w a hyster at 38 bc my cysts ended up turning into complex cysts. Thank God they ended up benign, but what a scare. You should always invsestigate anything out of the ordinary and be sure thats all it is. better to be safe than sorry hun....Teash
  • I agree with the PP. If you're exercising heavily you could be throwing off your cycles a bit. This would cause you to spot a bit. If it gets worse, or troublesome you can see someone. They may put you on a few day dose of hormone to get you back to being regular again and to stop the spotting. (this is what was done for me... I had the same thing happen a few years back)

I've had the same issue for years. According to my doctor, there is always residual blood after a period, and increased activity can cause it to "sluff" off. He says it's nothing to worry about, but it never hurts to check with your own physician when you experience changes, especially if it concerns you.
  • I don't think it's anything serious but see your doctor just to be sure :)

Definitely book yourself in for a check-up.
I had a similar thing happen to me and besides upping my exercise level, the only other cause I could think of was that I was on the pill and hadn't had my period in a while. (I had a few things come up forcing me to postpone having it for a while). I'm sitting on day three right now and this will possibly be the answer. If not, I'll be off to the doctor's.
Long story short -- could that be it?
  • ^ Umm no, I'm not on the pill. So I don't think that could be a cause. I regularly get my periods.

It's a relief to hear that others too have this issue or I would've thought that I was abnormal. Thanks a lot for the suggestion guys. I'll give it a few more days and if it doesn't stop, I'll contact a doc.
