So I went to A bone and joint specialist today, I was worried about my knee. It has been hurting for the last month and has gotten worse each week, even with rest. I went from running 4.5 miles down to less than 1.5:sad:

The dr. told me that because my glutes are weak it is pulling on my IT Band, that in turn has pulled my knee cap off track, which is causing the discomfort. The good news I can do execises to strengthen my glutes and hip flexors:bigsmile:

The bad news......Apparently I have a weak *kitten*

The more I thought about what the Doctor told me the more it makes me laugh! I'm just happy to find out that it isn't a serious problem and I'll be able to get back on track hopefully in the next 2-4 weeks! WooHoo!!!

at least it wasn't because of a "big" *kitten* any more

They sell a big styrofoam roller that you can roll your IT bands out with after every run...yes...I too have a weak *kitten* The roller works - hurts like heck til you get use to it but loosens those IT bands out real nice.

I had the same problem. My knee started to hurt really badly and it was due to my IT band and then when I started new strenght exercises I haven't had in problems in about 7 months.

Good luck to you and your speedy recovery!

Hey there fellow runner! I had this sort of thing happen to me a few years back with Trochanteric Bursitis (middle aged lady disease really) in both of my hips. My Orthopedic Surgeon told me to do Pilates/Yoga to strengthen my hips, back, and core. I did get a cortisone shot in the worst hip, but decided to start doing Pilates/Yoga as well. Honestly, it did WONDERS for my body. Give it a try. Your bones/joints will thank you on those long runs.

I laughed heartily at the weak *kitten*. What exercises are you doing to strengthen your hip flexors and glutes?

A lot of stretches; Standing calf stretch, Quadriceps stretch, hamstring stretch
    Leg lifts:
    Oblique quadricep sets
Sidelying Hipadduction (leglifts on your side)
    Wall Squat w/ball between knees
    Standing leg lifts with Theraband

and the dr also suggested a lot of core work, planks, and posture exercises. I'll take it if it helps:)

I'm glad that it's something you can work on. It would be a shame to have to quit now when you come so far! I sure with the same dedication you'll have a nice round booty in no time!!

HA! Definitely don't have that problem - maybe if you got a badonkadonk like I do you wouldn't hurt! ;)
