Is it possible that drinking a glass of metamucil prior to a meal will help fill you up faster? On days that I don't workout, I have a horrible time staying under 1220 calories. I had heard that metamucil could make it easier.

No. It works in the bowels, not in the stomach. Drinking 8oz of water "fills you up" just the same as drinking 8oz of water mixed with Metamucil. That's not a very smart way to try to reduce calorie intake. Just drink water.

The amount of fiber in a dose of metamucil is actually pretty small. The only reason I don't want to eat after I drink it is because I still have the horrible taste in my mouth and only water can cure me of that!!

I do love the effects of the metamucil though, being more regular and considerably less bloated and gassy is a definite PLUS for me =) also, it's an excuse to get a glass of water out of the way.

Rather than use metamucil why not get some psyllium husks (the fibre part of MM) from the health food shop. It works out a whole lot cheaper and you wont be getting all the added chemicals.
I take a spoonful first thing every morning in water, then drink an extra glass of water. It fills me up till first break at work and keeps me regular, which I need as I'm using meal replacement shakes for 2 of my meals a day.
