Hi

Is this stuff, generally speaking... 'good' or 'bad' for you?
Why does it seem most protein or weight loss snack bars are made of this stuff?
Are there bars that the primary ing. isn't soy?

Thanks, Kim

I dont know if this is the answer your looking for, but I have this book by kevin trudeau, and ill type what he says under "ingredients to stay away from."
    -Soy protein isolate:
This is a common ingredient in protein shakes and protein or food bars. Stay away from this. You will virtually never see organic soy protein isolate. The reason is that in the processing of soy protein isolate, hexane is often used , which is a petroleum solvent similar to gasoline. Certainly these chemicals, or residues of these chemicals, remain in the food, but they are never listed on the label.

I suppose I need to start digging for more info on this. Would love to hear if any MFP's folks know anything more about this....

I wasn't aware of this, very interesting. I try to stay away from soy protein as it isn't good for the thyroid. Have you tried Whey protein? Or maybe it has some hidden problems to, hmmm I don't know.
