Cute Workout Clothes for 14+ Sizes

I am one of those people in limbo land in terms of sizes. I am L/XL on top an 18/20 on the bottom. I'm also DD+. I have so much trouble finding cute workout clothes. Sometimes the "regular" sizes fit, but workout tanks with the shelf bra do not fit at all (no room for the girls). it is also hard to find supportive sports bras.

I thought I'd start a thread to share my finds. Please chime in with your sources for cute workout gear.

Sports Bras
I am 36g-h/38ff-g. Standard sports bras do not work for me. I have 3 right now:
Freya
Shock Absorber
Fortunately these are sized by cup/band. I wait for them to go on sale at Figleaves.com

Workout Pants
I like tights, pants with drawstrings, capris, and pants with pockets.
Target
Gap
Old Navy
Kohl's

Tops
This is much harder. I like the idea of wicking tops, but the XLs are usually snug on me. And of course many come with those pesky shelf bras. I have been loading up on basic tees from Old Navy, Gap, H&M when they are on sale. Recently I found a few great loose fitting tops in Gap Body. Hopefully they keep making them, I do not see the shirt I got online, but they are on clearance in the stores. Your suggestions are welcome. :)

Every time I visit Lane Bryant, they seem do not have anything, just sweat suits for "loungewear."

What have you guys found?

  • Thanks for the advice. I was just looking at my cloths and thinking as I go through this process I am going to need to find some cloths exactly like what you said. I am almost the same sizes as you from head to toe.

i recently stumbled onto jcpenney's website. they have an awesome collection of workout clothing, and you can search by size range. very reasonably priced and fashionable!

    Great idea!

    Sports bras:
My favorite is Lane Bryant's Ultimate Sports Bra

    Pants:
Target! They even have XXL in Short length!

    Shorts:
Target again. :) I found a pair with pockets last summer which was great for carrying keys (and the inhaler just in case!)

    Shirts:
I've had much less luck here. I bought some sleevess wicking shirts that are too tight to wear alone but that I can wear under regular T-shirts at Target last year (in the women's dept). I shopped some last year in the men's dept at Target as well, but the shirt I got really didn't fit well. hoping that I can fit into an XL in ladies this year! (Mostly because of the DD's here too -- which were DDD's last summer!)
  • Yes, pretty pretty PLEASE tell me where you can find decent sports bras in DD+ !!! I've been searching all the stores within a 20 mile radius of my home over the last two days... My band size is 38, so that isn't a problem, but nobody carries anything larger than a 38DD.

I had to order online but LOVE the Lane Bryant ultimate sports bra! I bought it last summer thanks to someone on MFP recommending it! Looks like they don't have much in stock right now but they typically have more sizes available.

  • I usually just get mine from the local Walmart except my bottoms, I'm an apostolic pentecostal and wear only skirts and so very limited in the bottom area. I suggest checking Ebay for work out clothes, also when it comes to the tops with bras built in and then not fitting you could always cut it out and wear your own sports bra underneath. Having small girls I don't have this problem. Walmarts Danikin brand offer cute workout sets and if you don't have one close by you could order from Walmart.com.

Definitely check out figleaves.com and herroom.com. They have more bras for DD+ people (even if you have smaller band size)

For a bra Fiona by Moving Comfort. I had to buy it online-Amazon. It is wonderful. Never realized how much more I could exercise when the girls were in check. I think they run D-F/G ranges

One more recommendation: I got this swimsuit last year in a turquoise/navy combo. Really flattering. All of my friends were like "that is a really cute swimsuit! you look great."

    http://www.figleaves.com/us/product.asp?product=Ballet-Acapulco-Swimsuit&product_id=BA-AP79&size=&colour=Blues

It is also sized by cup, and the little drawstrings at the leg give you flexibility in the leg cut. The only drawback...it was a bit tricky to put on when wet (that mesh tummy control was sticky), but looking hourglass-y at the beach was totally worth it. :)

Although they're not specifically workout wear, the Avenue has nice, inexpensive cotton tops that I use almost exclusively for working out and around the house.
