Calories calculated vs Individuality

I am thinking that a person that weighs 400 pounds and a person that weights 200 pounds walk up the same flight of stairs the number of calories burned would be different as they each carry different weight, not to mention the individual person puts their own pizazz on doing something. What if one of them shakes a mean tail feather up those stairs stepping to their own beat?

So is it accurate to think that calories burned is something that is a little more individual than any chart can truly give us?

It is individual based on weight and such and the online calculator here takes that into consideration. You will see that you burn less calories for the same activity and duration as your weight goes down. A heart rate monitor is actually a great tool to get a much more accurate count of calories burned.

It is very individual. That is why when you signed up for MFP it asked you about height, weight, activity level, age, gender. But, a HRM will give you the most accurate results.

    Good luck!

When we can, my husband and I walk together. Though I feel like we're the same size, he's both taller and larger than I am, and it shows in our estimated calorie burns. The same walk can be over 100 calories different on my log than his.... which makes sense, but is a bit of a bummer if we're planning to eat something both tasty and calorie-laden....

Thanks for the replys everyone. I do love how things are set up here, and the great support people offer!

My treadmill at home calculates calories burned per mile. I was just feeling a little set off by the chart that it uses. You know? I know my son ... the little thing that he is and myself the not so little thing do not burn the same calories doing the same workout.

Not to mention when I feel up to it and add that extra little zip in my movements I feel like I have done more. :)
