Lowering Heart Rate

Anyone have any tips on lowering your heart rate while exercising. I know overall cardio fitness helps, as well as just having those genes, but any specific exercises or intensities? I was just reading 50/50 by Dean Karnazes and it said he runs 4 fours without going over 110 bpm.

It takes time and a lot of training to do that. One tip though is to keep your arms below chest height when you run, and try not to swing them too much. Also, i'm not sure about this, but i'd imagine that HIIT would work great for lowering the heart rate over time. Short bursts of intensity has helped a lot of runners improve their long distance training too.
My resting heart rate is 49, even though i'm definetly NOT an athlete, so sometimes it's the way you are.0
