What should I order?

I am headed out to this local Italian restaurant tonight for Valentine's Day. Of course, there isn't any nutritional information available anywhere. I really don't want to blow my diet.

So, what would be the best items to order? What should I estimate as the calories?
Here is the menu:

My personal rule about italian places (YUM LOVE THEM!!) is to order whatever you like, but only eat half. Take the other half home, they serve way too much anyway. If you order a salad ask for the dressing on the side so you don't overdo it. Just do an extra workout that morning and you should be ok. Enjoy it!

If I am eating out, I try to make smart choices from the menu and don't even bother to estimate the calories - I just make sure that I am good for the rest of the week.

If I'm going for an Italian meal, I tend to follow these options:
    - Have a salad to start and ask for no dressing. I also try to avoid any cheese in it.
    - For main, pasta with a tomato based sauce. I try to avoid anything creamy as it will be packed with fat. I also avoid meat sauces for the same reason
    - Avoid pizza at all costs!
    - Have 1 large glass of wine and a large glass of water or two.
    - No dessert

By doing that, I don't feel like I am missing out, or being too obsessive - but I also feel like I'm not totally blowing my diet.

I say, if this is your valentine's day special night with your honey, then stop stressing and enjoy it. Eat small amounts of whatever looks good, avoid alcohol, lots of water to combat sodium, and have fun!

  • Not sure what I did wrong with quote but here is my reply anyway :) I agree with this quote but like to add fresh fruit or non dairy sorbet/gelato if I feel like it. I usually have a small glass of wine with spritzer added, for that bit of 'sparkle'! I don't choose meat dishes (vegetarian) so I can save some calories for dessert!

I would order whatever you most like, it's a treat after all! But make sure you eat slowly and stop eating when you're full - I usually find the problem when eating out is you feel compelled to finish everything on the plate!
