Ok so I'm new here and have TONS of questions... LOL

I'm pear shapped and was wondering if anyone else out there has the same problem and if anyone has any tips for me.

I know that they say it's harder to loose the weight when you are pear shapped but there has to be something that can help.

I am doing cardio 4 times a week (45 minutes a day) since January 4th and my legs have slimmed down but not as much as my upper body OF COURSE.. lol

Anyone??

WOO for pear shaped girls! lol

Jennifer Lopez is pear shaped as well as heidi Clum, Shakira, and Christina aguilera! and so I am totally down with being pearshaped with these lovely ladies! lol

    haha

I am pear shaped and while I have lost almost 2 inches everwhere else on my body including my Boobs! (boooo) in the last month I have only lost a half of an inch on my hips. But since I have been working out since the begining of 2010, I have lost almost three inches. so Its moving! its just moving slowly!

In order to move the inches off your hips and thighs, cardio wont be enough to do it, you have to strength train with weights. Now I know what you are thinking...strength training will make my thighs bigger from lifting weights, NOT SO! just make sure to lift a comfortable amount of weight, not all the weight you can barely handle, and do more reps with it! I can lift about 110 lbs with my legs, and I do anywhere from 3-8 reps depending on how big of a hurry I am in. this has helped me slim down quicker on my hips.

If you have a gym, do the HIP ADDUCTORS, and the HIP ABDUCTORS, as well as the seated leg curls. those will target the areas you are looking for! if you don't have a gym do a gazillion squats or lunges until you cant do any more. hold weights or waterbottles in your hands to bump up the wieghts.

I am not sure what kind of cardio you are doing, but if you are not doing the stair climber I would suggest doing that machine STAT! I know it is scary, but it will drop those inches! if you don't have a gym membership or access to a gym, find some stairs!!! :) and run or walk them, skip steps, walk up them sideways, anyway to feel that burn!

that is what has worked for me! but just remember it will be a ridiculously slow process, however 1/2 inch per month isn't bad, thats 6 inches a year! so hey! any progress is good for me! :)

I am the definition of pear-shaped! I have a booty and "thick" legs, but I like my curves. Besides, I've read that it's MUCH healthier to carry your weight around your hips because carrying weight at your midsection is very dangerous to your health. I agree that the stair-stepper is my best friend/worst enemy at the gym, but I have also learned to love the stationary bike to tone up my butt and outer thighs.
  • you gave me some great tips thanks

I heard this too, and am glad to be pear shaped! Apparently you're a lot less likely to suffer from weight-related diseases when you carry it in your hips/thighs as opposed to your midsection.

My thighs are pretty stubborn when it comes to losing inches, but they're really gradually getting thinner.

Yes very good tips thank you and don't get me wrong I do love my shape, just wish it was a bit slimmer :)

As for exercises I don't have access to a gym but here at work they give fitness classes 5 days a week during lunch time and it's 45 minutes a day, we do a mix of strenght and cardio every day so I am doing a lot of squats and lunges... so I guess I should notice a difference soon.. I only started this on Jan 4th so I'll give it time.. :)

I am just curious! are you measuring yourself? or just going by the scale and looking in the mirror? if you are not measuring yourself! definately start! I started working out really hard on that area about the same time you did, and I have only lost .5 of an inch. so its slow. I feel your pain!

Yes I do measure myself and in all I've lost 11 inches so far.. but most of it was upper body.. I'm due to measure myself again soon so hopefully I'll see a bigger difference

I am pear shaped and have seen changes in my body with balancing cardio (spinning), strength training (squats, lunges, plies) and Pilates. Pilates has really made a nice change in my hips. It is a slow change but well worth the hard work.

For me I know this is what I will have to do for the rest of my life if I want to keep my hips and thighs the way they are now. As soon as I take a break from exercise The weight comes straight back to my lower body.

I love being a pear and having a flat tummy and small waist.

    I am a big PEAR!!!
Honestly, it has taken a long time for me to see a difference round my hips and my legs. My boobs disappeared first....then my tummy....slowly my upper arms are going...but my thighs and hips are still very thick. But he last 7lbs or so I have noticed some real movement in my legs and hips, which is nice to see finally!! I also have taking up a toning/stretching class recently and I think that has helped (on top of the cardio/strength work I had been doing).
Took 45lbs of weight loss but its finally melting from my 'problem' areas. But to be honest I love my pear shape now that I am smaller, it is sexy :)
