A question for big losers?

Ok, so far I have lost 21 pounds (yay!) but I still have 38 to go (boooo) and I have a question for those of you that have lost a significant amount of weight. I have always been heavy in my upper arms. not so much saggy, just very plump. Now that I am losing weight they are becoming more saggy because of the excess skin. I've been working a bit on my triceps to tone what I do have there, and I know there's now way to get rid of excess skin, but I'm wondering if anyone has found that over time the excess skin diminishes? I know my arms may never look perfect but I'm starting to get really self-concious about it, and with 38 lbs left to go, I know it will only get worse before it gets better. Has anyone had this problem and noticed that the skin snaps back over time, or am I living in a dream world? thanks in advance :flowerforyou:

In the past year I have lost 100lbs. I too was very worried about the "old lady floppy arm" but I started strength training for a hour a day. One day arms, one day legs, abs everyday. Everything went back into place like it was supposed to after about 6 months except for my belly (HAVING A TUMMY TUCK NEXT MONTH TO TAKE CARE OF THAT!!!)

eeeek a tummy tuck? That's what I'm worried about, I really don't want to have surgery to fix my yucky arms. My fiance says if I need it when I'm done then we will do it but he doesn't really get it.... I'm terrified at the thought of surgery. I will try upping my stregth training and see where that gets me. What kinds of excercises did you do? I work my bis and tris with small dumbells (5-10 lbs) and I also do the ones where you lean back on a chair and lift yourself. but I don't really know what else to do for them?

When I started weight training I would use the 10-20 pounders but now I have worked my way up and I lift with the guys in " the BIG BOY" part of the gym. It's funny b/c I don't even have to change the weight on the machine after the guys use it anymore. They used to laugh at me when I would go back there but now I actually lift more than some of them so they treat me like one of the guys now. If I am at the gym doing cardio they will actually come get me so we can all workout together.!!!LOL:bigsmile:

If you go to a gym, they have trainers that can set up a work out schedule for you in just one or two meetings. Thats what i did, I didnt stay with the trainer for an extended period of time.
The only problem is, you have to know when to up the amount of weight.

Other than that, most health magazines offer some good work outs.
Also, if you have digital cable, they offer free exercise videos on demand that my girlfriend used to do.
Some of them are funny and weird though...

I think the good thing is that you're so young, so skin is still pretty springy. And since you're so hydrated from drinking all that water, your skin should pop pretty close to where it's supposed to be. I have the same thing, and so does my mom...And my grandma. My mom has lost a substantial amount of weight (like 200 lbs) and still has the floppy skin on her arms, but she started losing weight in her 40s. I think they'll go where they're supposed to be pretty soon. But if you find something that works for you, let me know!!! I have the same fear.

    may I ask
Is the tummy tuck covered by insurance or are you paying and how much?

I have that saggy skin below my belly button and it looks terrible. 2 kids and some weight loss.
I am proud it means I lost but every time after I shower I just look at it and sigh. Don't think I could afford the surgery though.
    My arms are worse but

Nope unfortunately not. I had to pay for it all out of pocket!!! I just sent off my last payment today!!! YEAH!!! I started saving for it a year ago when I started losing weight and that is the only way that I got it all paid for.

not to butt in, but it may depend on your insurance companies policies.
If you can prove that it's a health risk or necessary for quality of life it might be able to go through insurance.
My girlfriend just had breast reduction surgery a year ago, and she had to be pretty creative for that to go through insurance, but it worked.

The cost really depends on what surgeon you choose and how extensive the surgery is. The price cany vary several thousand dollars. The best bet is to call around to some surgeons and schedule a consultation. They are usually $75-$100. I went to 5 different consultations before I found a surgeon that I was comfortable with.

They should just donate tummy tucks to mothers huh? I have a feeling even when I do get to my goal weight... some things just aren't going to snap back into place.. oh well..that's life i guess right!!

It was funny b/c when I was filling out all of my paperwork for surgery, one of the pages said that "any tissue that is removed must to be disposed of by a pathologist at the cost of the patient" I thought that it was funny that you have to pay someone to throw your skin away!!!LOL

I think you should get to save it as a trophy

You are so right about motherhood. My cousin had 5 kids wasn't really that heavy 5 foot and maybe at the highest 150 pounds. She got done to 105 pounds and exercised and exercised (a million crunches) and still had a "pot belly". The doctor said the only way that would go away was surgery. With 5 kids she couldn't afford surgery.

I've already decided that when I am done having children and have lost ALL the excess weight, I would like to have a tummy tuck. Taylor left me with a deflated balloon tummy with stretch marks...lol not pretty, I can only imagine what the next one will do to me! As far as arm flab, lucky for me I never had a whole lot, my arms have always been pretty solid due to my brother's obsession with me being a tough girl when we were teenagers lol. I have no hope for my legs...they are still thunder thighs, only smaller..lol
