I'm a cyclist wannabe. (pedals not motor) A pure novice. Bike is in the shop getting ready to go. Should be out Wed. After that, I hope to hit it hard.

I've noticed many of you are avid cyclists. Sooooo, how about sharing your best advice with this rookie. Not even sure what exactly to ask yet. Help me get rolling in the right direction. What do I need to know?

Road or mountain? I prefer climbing rocks and dirt with my bike...However I have resorted to pavement (tasted like chicken) when I don't have a riding partner.

I LOVE my HRM during my rides. I can not only keep track of my heart, calories burned, stop watch and time, but I am really learning to monitor when I'm "in the zone" without even looking. I am listening to my body, feeling less tired because I look down at my HRM and think, THIS IS IT? I'm in the zone and can push myself to ride further, longer, and harder knowing I don't have to DIE to ride. I love it. Errrr....does this help motivate or your plans for working out at all?

Yup! Anything & everything helps! I will probably be riding primarily on the road. What kind of HRM? Do you remember the cost?

I purchased my HRM from Target for under $100. Against every one's advice I bought one without the strap. I did not realize I could use it without always using the strap. I also did not realize I would actually use it so much. I worried about heading out the door and having to adjust it as it slips, pulls, tugs and such. Having one to use with and without the strap would now be ideal. Anyway...

Banks gave me quite a bit of advice on them. It really helped me decide to go for it and buy one!
