Well I have to admit I fell off the wagon a little over a month ago however I didn't gain any weight back... Woo Hoo  So I had it set in my mind to start back and finish what I started by losing the remainder of my weight before my wedding the begining of 2009. I figured no problem I have enough time to do it safely... A week ago I got really sick... Thought maybe it was food poisoning. It didn't go away and after 4 days of not being able to hold liquid or food down with alot of stomach pains I went to the hospital thinking they would give me some medicine and send me on my way.. Well things didn't work out they way. Next thing I know I was being whelled to the operating room to have my appendix removed, I was thinking just another hump and I will be able to start back working out and so forth before too long. I have had 3 children so this should be nothing. So I went to the doctor today for follow up thinking everything is okay... I am feeling better.. until the doctor tells me no exercise for another month atleast and that it takes your body 6 - 8 months to heal from this surgery.... :explode: Are you serious????? So now I am down another month... Any suggestions???? Anyone?????

Well, don't go against Dr's wishes......you don't want to be down for more than a month!! Just take it easy and stay in your calorie range without your exercise calories. You can do it!!

    Get well soon!:flowerforyou:

see if he/she will ok low impact stuff, like recumbant bike or lite pool workouts. things that can still get the heart moving a bit, but won't cause problems for your healing process. I bet if you press him/her a bit, they will give you some things you can do. Good luck my dear.

Listen to your body, and maybe after you personally feel up to it, take light walks. Speak with your doctor and tell him/her you have goals to lose weight by wedding time.

Hey! I am so sorry you have had such a hard time of it!! I hope you heal and feel better VERY soon!

Just listen to your doctor. You can still eat healthy and focus on doing that...and when you have healed properly then get back to exercising.

I made the mistake after my c-section of doing too much too soon and had infections in my incision for a long time, which hindered me even longer!

So, just take it easy and allow your body to heal and you can get back on track once it does!!!

    GOOD LUCK!!

I think you have done a terrific job with your weight loss. You are more than half way to your goal weight. When I "fall off the wagon" for a month I gain back several pounds. I'm impressed you didn't gain any at all! I call that maintaining! I think you just needed a little break. Regarding the surgery and exercise, don't be so hard on yourself. Maybe you can start now with just being outside. Remember the fresh air and just being outside is good for you. Ten or fifteen minutes outside is more enjoyable and healthier than sitting in the house. Even if you are sitting! Good luck to you. From my perspective you are doing great! I am going to have surgery in August so I know I will be facing the same thing. I don't like to be down for too long!

I totally understand I lost a lot of weight and had surgery on ankle and was down for over 1 year before I could start to work out. Gained 40 pounds back, but at that point I gave up. I should have never given up I wish I had found MFP back then. But here is to a new start, you are here and we all know you can do this. :drinker:

I agree with everyone else, DON'T go against the Dr. You went through a major operation. Now is a good time to concentrated to make sure your eating habits are where you want them, After checking with your Dr. maybe you can start with some light yoga or stretching and some short walks.

Good Luck you can get through this!!
  • Stay Optimistic!! Like most have already said don't go against the Doctor's wishes but you still can lose weight without exercising! My biggest advice is to continue eating right and ask your doctor if there's any light exercises like stretching or walking that you can do to continue down that path.

Also, watch your portion control! I know when I'm down and out I love to snack and eat excessively just remember your down but not out!! I wish you luck and remember YOU STILL CAN DO IT!!

First of all you show you lost 87 lbs....Way to go!! That is awesome! :flowerforyou: Second of all, you need to follow doctors orders. You can still eat healthier and that will help you lose some weight. Eat lots of greens it helps your body heal too. And after its healed then you can work out to tone up. But just by eating healthy you will lose some weight. And don't get too down. I'm sure your fiance, kids, and loved ones would rather have you here alive and well than not have you here at all. Just eat healthy, watch your portions, and when you're all healed up; add in the exercise. Take care of yourself and we're here if you need us....:flowerforyou:

Thank you all for your responses. I know I need to follow doctors orders it just gets frustrating some times. I know I have lost alot and I am very thankful for MFP in helping me do that... I still have a long way to go, but I will make it. I guess I could look at the bright side I have an excuse to not have to work out so hard. Thanks for the tips and I am definately going to try to keep my eating right during this time.
