Not to discouraged anyone about low carb...especially since it sounds like it is working for you...but I went on one of those before. I lost 25 lbs. in 5 weeks; however, by week 4 and 5, around 11:00 everyday, I would feel like I was going to pass out! I would get ghostly white and run to the bathroom to vomit. It was scary. Needless to say, it also didn't take long to gain all of that back and then some after I started eating in a normal way.
By the way, I wasn't preggie:laugh: I am also a teacher and would have to leave the room racing down the hall. Nice visual, huh?:happy:0 -
I have heard negatives about low-carb diets as well. The thought is that general a low-carb plan is a DIET, not a way of life. The odds are you will not eat like this forever. I have heard that the reintroduction of carbs into your diet will cause you to gain back the weight. Also carbs are a very important part of nutrition. Especially for those that are increasing physical activity in order to get healthy. Carbs are the energy source we need! That said there are better choice carbs out there like fruits and veggetables, potatoes, whole grain breads, oats etc etc. I would really only go low carb if it was due to a health problem and if it was suggested by a medical proffessional. But that is all just my opinion, something to think about though! :flowerforyou:0

I think that all sounds just fine. You are getting all your calories and making food choices that I should be making. Keep it up! :happy:0

I too have heard negative as well as supportive things about a low carb diet. I can only speak from my personal experience of course.
I DO consider the way I eat now my "way of life". After trying and failing over and over on as many diets as past my way, I can't imagine changing what has finally worked for me. I don't find it difficult to stick with since I allow myself to induldge often enough to feel satisfied but not so often as to cause me to pile weight on that is so much to discourage me... hence the 3 years to lose it.
When I over-do on carbs I certainly do gain weight. On vacation I average a pound a day. I don't give it a thought.. I enjoy myself and get back on track when I'm home again. I guess I'd say that the indulging is a piece of what I call my life-style way of eating.
You're right, carbs are important in everyone's diet... to some degree. My personal "degree" is a low number.. as low as I need at the time I'm trying to drop weight.
Complex carbs are my choice when I do have them. They burn slowly enough to give me the energy I need. I work out 3 times a week for 30 minutes and have never felt weak or light-head. I burn fat for energy. That is what occurs if you don't have carbs to burn.. that's how this works.
I was a diabetic on medication when I started all these changes. My doctor was ready to put me on insulin. I was just getting worse and worse. I begged him to give me just a bit more time. I promised to get my act together. At that time I was 212 pounds and 5'2. I started that very day to create my own low carb plan.. something I could live with. I weigh 130 now and have kept the weight off. My sugars have been normal for over 2 years. I am now considered pre-diabetic.
You're right.. this isn't for everyone... but it sure is for me. I haven't been so healthy in years and I'm 60 years old.
By the way - my 3 children follow this life style as well. My son is an active police officer. He works out and body builds 4 times a week for an hour and has been doing this for many years. My daughter weighs 108 pounds and follows this plan to stay slim. She's an active mother of twins and a teacher's aid.. full time. My middle son is a paramedic.. also a very active job. He maintains his weight as well.
Whatever your choice - a doctor's advise is first and foremost!
Good Luck Everyone!!0 -
