Anyone else on this? My DR just switched my BC again, and it's coming up to my first PMS...It's like a whole new experience. I don't know if I'm going to snap out any second now, if I'm going to break down and cry, if I'm just going to start raving like a lunatic because SOMETHING is bothering me and I don't know what...but I feel impending doom. I have to constantly check myself so I don't start a fight with my fiance...he's even more sensitive during PMS than I am...it's like it's HIS perogative. This is the 4th type of birth control I've tried...and each pill had different PMS...all the aforementioned symptoms happened with each pill. I can remember my old roommate (he was male) use to call me on the phone when he knew I had PMS because he didn't know if I was going to snap or cry. He thought it was rather funny when I snapped. But trust me, not being on birth control was 10x worse...I was a raving lunatic...and I make snap decisions that are generally wrong ones. It's better for me to be on synthetic hormones then left to wander the province unmedicated...it's either birth control or prozac when I'm hormonal.

That sounds awful! Hope you are able to find some relief soon. Wish I could be of more help.
  • I have had similar reactions when on birth control pills and for that reason they did not work for me, I felt like a crazy person, and I knew it was pills and not me. Have you discussed alternatives to using birth control pills with your doctor?
  • bump id like to know as well

I feel you - been there, done that, and it SUCKED. All you can do is keep track of how you react to each form of BC and keep working with your doc to search for one that works for you. I keep my stuff in a spreadsheet: the name of the med, when I was on it, and a brief description of my reaction. When I go see my doc I print out a copy so he knows what's going on and what meds, based on the drugs in the ones I've tried. Eventually, you will find a method that works for you.

Has your doctor ever talked to you about PMDD?

  • I took the tums calcium tablets and found it helped IMMENSELY!! Try those. The recommendation is 1200 mg per day.
Reduce your sugar and caffeine, it puts you over the top.
It made all the difference in the world to me. I was an angry crier!

yeah I read that calcium deficiency is the number one reason you get bad PMS...I'm allergic to casein so I take calcium supplements every day (or at least I try to lol) I also take evening primrose oil, PMS tea, etc...I'm no stranger to PMS. I was just hoping the increase in projesterone would stop my horrid *****yness...I'm naseous too...but I'm going to give these a 3 month trial period before I go back and tell them they suck. I don't take birth control to stop from making babies...I'd just get an IUD for that...I'm on birth control to literally control myself

so no one has any advice? alright then ladies, as far as I know you should get your calcium, lower your caffeine and sodium levels, drink lots of tea, have lots of quiet time...and warn those around you that you have PMS...that's what I've done so far. My new symptom is needyness...my god my fiance can't walk by me without me needing a hug...it's rather pathetic lol but he's more than happy to oblige. I'm sappy, really sappy...but i'm still nauseous
