So, both my housemates are sick, I have held off, which is unusual, few years back, I was the sickest one in the house(different house with the ex), but I can tell it's coming just by how I'm feeling. . I did manage to do 30 mins today of biking, but had to stop as I was having problems breathing(i've got asthma to begin with) and ran out of juice. . .

I don't want to exhaust my body, thus making it easier to get sick, but I also dont' want to stop. . .I've gotten on a roll, don't think I've missed a day of biking in 2 wks now, but also don't want to do too much.

suggestions?"
I hate being sick :P Feel like i'm choking cuz of my sinus's draining backwards :P

I find when I'm ill I don't eat much either so the fact that I'm not doing much is fine cos I haven't put the fuel in to get the energy out don't over exert yourself and its likely to take longer for you to get over being sick x
  • I've been sick for almost a week straight now. I know it's hard but if you are or think you're getting sick, I think you should rest. Your body is working hard to fight off the illness and IMO that's what it needs to concentrate your energy on. Feel better soon. :)

this might sound lame but I head to the mall before it opens and power walk. I can burn some decent calories :)

Rest and increase you calories a bit. You body needs energy to beat the bugs. and if you don't give it the energy it needs the illness will take longer to fight off. Go easy on yourself x

if you're sick, then your body's main goal is to get it better, so a) you don't want to divert that energy and b) you won't be getting the same benefits from your workouts. if you had two major jobs to do at the exact same time, chances are both of them are going to suffer and be less than if you had worked on them separately--same thing for your body right now. maybe you can do some more gentle things like stretching and yoga or pilates--or just take good care of yourself so that you'll be healthy sooner.
    Feel better~!
  • just switch your calories to maintenance till you are better because cough sweets etc have calories in them too, just dont exceed your maintenance, you need to drink plenty and still eat good food, fresh fruit and veg etc, your body will need it to fight the infection. get better soon

I hate being sick too! I got the flu just before Christmas and then another bout of creeping crud in January.
I'm a runner and it was really getting me down that I couldn't do what I wanted. :grumble: I ended up taking 2 weeks at Christmas and another week in January without exercise. Once I got better, I got right back at it...:drinker:
The thing to do is what your body tells you. If you don't "feel" like working out, then don't. Your body is saying "I need a rest!" :noway:
Don't worry about not exercising while your body is recovering. If you're serious about being healthy and losing weight, you'll get right back with it once you are well.

    Feel better soon! :flowerforyou:

I have been sick as well and it was nice to read everyones positive comments about resting. I had really gotten on the exercise band wagon and it was very depressing to me that I havent been able to exercise. But I truly believe everyones advice about resting so u can get better is the right way to go. U dont want to make urself worse by stressing ur body too hard.

thanks guys. . .this stinks :P Lol. .. but I also dont' want to be sick forever. . .so hope I don't get it as bad as my housemates or my workmates have(two of those were out of work almost 3 days). . .
  • Take it easy on your sick days.I usualy make myself a big cup of camomile tea, add lemons, 1 tsp of honey, put all that in my sport bottle and go walking on the treadmill. Sip my drink and listen to my body. I feel better after I'm done because I did something, but I do not push it.

I love this idea! Next time (hopefully not soon) I am not feeling well, this is the advice I'm going to follow.
    Thanks a bunch!

yeah, I can still bike, just do it leisurely while I read, no need to burn it up. Is maintenace just the calories MFP gives you for the day?
