Hi, I'm kind of a newbie at this. I really would like to lose my belly and that little extra fat under the belly (that most of us women get)! Do any of you have any suggestions on what exercise I can do to get rid of the fat? :indifferent:

Also I'm looking to tone my legs thighs, buttocks and arms. Do any one have any suggestions for that? I've started jogging/running at least 1 mile a day and do a little cardio in the evenings. I also started (trying ) to drink 8 glasses of water a day! I really want to focus on my mid section and I need guidance on what foods to avoid and what foods would be a great source of nutrition!

I really would appreciate any one's advice!

Thanks

    Cardio, cardio cardio.

The fat is water, so using one of those wrap around the waist stretchy belts with neopreme on the inside (you can find them at walmart in the fitness area...they also have neopreme shorts to shed more water from you legs!) helps you to sweat more, especially in the waist area. And less noticeable than the plastic suits  It seems extreme, but so long as you wear during a cardio workout like the elliptical or walking and not anything that requires full range of movement, you won't strain your back. Also, It reminds you to contract your abs while walking or doing any of those types of workouts.

Remember to drink a LOT of water, though. Getting dehydrated makes you retain water, which makes it worse

O! and water based foods not only fill you up and are good for you (veggies, fruits), they don't make your body store fat. There fore you use the fat you have stored around your waist and legs for energy.

The running is great for toning your legs and bum (cycling is also great for them), but any fat you're looking to lose (ie- the pouch) will be dissolved by it too! You can't target where you lose fat from, all you can do is cardio cardio cardio and your body will take from wherever it wants, but eventually you should lose from there too. I really wanted to lose from my legs, so what happens? I lost and lost and lost from my tummy, boobs and face. Only now am I beginning to see changes in my legs. It takes time but you can do it!
  • Great advice:bigsmile:

    Thanks so Much everyone!!

    Hello Diva :flowerforyou:

I was holding my weight in the same area and my suggestion is to increase the time of your cardio.

I don't jog at all...just walk fast and for at least 30 min...which for me is just under 3 miles.

If you wanna lose the belly and pouch under it...increase your time doing cardio.

Begin with crunches using perfect form and then add leg lifts one at a time at 45 degrees and later at 90 degrees once you can lift that high.

You will be shocked how fast that fat will melt.

I am a big believer in using music during cardio... it keeps me goin and

You are gonna love the new you!

  • I feel you! I have that same pouch, and I thought it was from giving birth to two huge babies! But, my daughter is getting that same pooch! :frown: I've been doing cardio and tummy exercise, and I have noticed a slight difference. I want to lose the pooch, but I am so afraid of loose skin! My aunt lost a lot of weight too fast, and now she's contemplating a surgical procedure to remove the skin! I'm going to take it slow so my flab won't sag like hers! Good luck to you!:flowerforyou:
  • I agree, I fear sagging in the tummy too :ohwell: !! So far, I'm lucky enough that my stomach don't hang too badly. I'm trying to nip that in the bud right now!

    Thanks for sharing!!:smooched:

    Bellydance!

I love it...never feels like excercise because it is so much fun...it is an amazing exercise for toning...the cardio can be low to high intensity...live classes are great and there are many instructional and workout DVDs out there.

Any kind of dance is great, and you can still incorporate other forms of exercise with your dance.

Hope you find something you love!

I feel your pain! I am getting discouraged by this too  , but cardio does seem to be the only thing that really brings it down. I have also been taking a core training and abs class at my gym but that seems to just be strengthing everything and not really bringing it down. At least I am building up that six pack underneath my fat!! Also, keep your abs sucked in all day long that has been making a huge difference. Slouching and bad posture make that area look worse than it actually is.
  • Thanks!! I have been working on my posture!! But the sucking in the stomach thing I will have to work on!

You have to keep working hard, eating right and staying focused on your goal. Overall fitness will shape all those areas, there is not really a way to "spot" train. When you think of your stomach and thighs remeber there are muscles that attach thighs to the stomach and stomach to back, back to butt etc so you really need to work on all areas to improve the ones that bother you.

If these areas are where you first gained weight the old rule of first on last off is true. I notice my legs and arms are getting in better shape and my mid section seems worse but I know that determination and consistency will make my midsection better with time.

Cardio is great but you are going to have to get to those weights eventually. YOu will not bulk up, women slim down with weights long before turning into the hulk! You can do this, you have taken the first step, just keep going and you will start to see change. I saw in your profile you are only 3lbs into your goal, you will really start to see the difference with each pound. Take your measurements as added motivation and take before, during and the finished product photos during this journey so you can see the changes right in front of you. :drinker:
  • Thanks mnbarnum that's some solid advice!! I'm going to look into starting some weight training! What's so funny is you actually were on target with all of my fears (of bulking up). Now, I'm not so afraid of weight training!

    Thanks:love:
