I have a question for everyone who plans meals. If you know what you will be having through out the day do you find it helpful to log it in advance or do you wait until you have already eaten it to allow flexability.

  • I log everything as soon as I know what I'm making, usually at lunch time. That makes it easier for me to know if I can have that piece of bread with dinner, or an extra glass of milk, etc. It keeps me more inline too, so I don't eat a higher calorie lunch or snack.
  • I log as I go, seems less stressful that way for me lol. That way when I log in I see I have lots of calories left and dont get freaked out when theres only 100 cal left. And plus Life happens so you may not eat what you plan, you may decide to eat carrots instead of broccoli

I plan ahead in the respect that now, 4pm i am planning what I will eat tomorrow, and i have started logging it in tomorrow's food diary too!
Some may call this obsessive but for me it helps greatly. It means i get up tomorrow and my daily food is more or less planned and i can also see how many cals are left for on the spot snacks etc if i need them.

But i think you need to do what is best for you and what you find helps.

Hi, I have only just started here but.......I have tried in the past to log my eating habit retrospectively. That is a bit like spending money with a credit card and doing the reckoning at the end of the day only to find out that the new shoes, jeans and MP3 player have left you in the red.

What I am hoping to get from MFP and the mobile app that supports it, is the to be able build up a virtual larder of foods and recipes so that I can meal plan in advance, and use that plan to direct my shopping. That way I hope to control my eating, control my food spending by only buying the fresh food items that I will be consuming reducing waste. I say fresh food, because fresh food is more nutritious and not having a fridge or freezer full of instant gratification will reduce snack attack opportunities.

In scuba diving we used to say plan your dive and dive your plan. So here I would say plan your eats and eat your plan :)
