Weekend Snacks - Kinda Stuck!

My children and I have an event this weekend where all meals are paid. Unfortunately, I don't think I will be able to access MFP until I get home on Sunday, but I will at least try.

For Saturday morning, they are offering bagels, donuts and orange juice. I don't want that. I don't care if it is free. LOL
So what I need is some ideas for breakfast that I can eat that will keep me full for the most part until lunch. We will be very busy (its a fife & drum corp. my kids are in, and we will be marching and moving from one thing to the other a lot!) - I cannot afford to be hungry. Lunch is not looking promising either. But dinner is supposed to be a chicken breast. Yay! :)
I also need ideas for snack ideas to bring that will keep me full. I already have nuts, raisins and snack mix on my list, but I need something else. I guess pieces of fruit, but what else?

I will have no access to a fridge, an oven, a microwave or anything else that will "cook" or "heat" anything. We're kinda "period accurate - early 1800's" so no modern day conveniences... LOL) I can bring a small cooler bag with me, but we will be gone until Sunday (leaving Friday afternoon) so I won't be able to re-freeze a freezer pack. Interestingly, all the restaurants surrounding where we are staying are ALL fast food. Couldn't find a single restaurant that was close by.

I appreciate any help. Trying to get organized ahead of time so I am ready to go on Friday morning. LOL Thanks guys!

  • Apples are good. Full of fiber so will keep you feeling full longer. Could you do oatmeal somehow?? Probably not but if you could that would be good. Protein bars, hard-boiled eggs?(maybe for the first day while your cooler is still cold) freeze some go-gurts (can use as ice packs and they aren't really too bad healthwise) jerky (I know it is high in fat but it is protein and will help you feel full) Take gum to chew and lots of water to drink. Good luck and good job thinking ahead.

Fot the first morning try greet yogurt. Keep furit with you that deosn't have to stay chilled like apples or clemintines or rasins. Whole wheat crackers and peanut butter, the bumblebee tuna packs are great and they have ones w/o mayo so they are lower in calorie. I eat them all the time when I hike. Good luck!

I would bring some energy bars and granola bars with you. Here are some of my favorites:
    Kashi Chewy Trail Mix Bar
Kashi Fruit & Grain Bar - Chocolate Coconut & Pumpkin Pecan
Kashi Cereal Bars - Blackberry Graham or Cherry Vanilla
Trader Joe's Cereal Bars - This Apple Walks Into A Bar
Clif Bar - Peanut Butter Crunch, Apricot, Blueberry Crisp (the mini bar combo packs are also good)
Luna Protein Bar - Peanut Butter

    Nuts & Dried Fruit
    Oranges & Apples
Granola - I love the Bare Naked Fit Triple Berry Crunch
Dry Cereals with protein and fiber - will there be milk provided to use at this event?

    Good Luck!
  • You guys gave me some super ideas. Thank you!
The hard boiled eggs are a REALLY good idea, I hadn't even thought of that (although why, I don't know - I boil a dozen a week - so I'll make some Friday morning before I leave!)
Apples are another good idea, and I can still bring a scoop of my all natural peanut butter to dip it in. Another thing I overlooked.

I'm going to bring snacks for later in the day too, so I'm going to make up some Cajun Spiced Popcorn Friday morning, bring some pretzels and I'm also going to prepare ham and asparagus roll ups for lunch on Saturday (figure they should stay cold) and Olive Pepper Pinwheels. Yum!
    You guys rock...
and the yogurt idea was really good too, because I hadn't thought of that either. LOL

Try roasting some chickpeas this week with your favorite spices. They crunch up just like corn nuts and offer a high protein, low fat snack that travels easily.

    Have fun!

If you bring boiled eggs you could get packets of miracle whip or mayo (just grab a few extra from walmart or Subway or wherever) you could cut up the egg and make a egg salad sandwich for lunchtime. Just bring a sandwich thin or wrap in a plastic baggy! I do this on the road on the weekends I'll be in my car from party to party. :) It takes like 20 seconds to whip up too! With some baked chips on the side and a diet coke I just saved myself a ton of calories. :)
