I just started exercising at my desk at work. I brought in little 3 lb. hand weights and found some websites with some good general workouts you can do at your desk without drawing too much attention to yourself.

  • Cool! Thanks for sharing!!!
  • I do the same thing! I sit at a desk all day long. I start the day with 10-15 minutes of gentle yoga stretching, then just before lunch when my officemates are at lunch I roll out my mat and do 15 minutes of pilates as part of my lunch break. There are lots of great videos on youtube! My yoga favorites are on the "yogatoday" channel and my pilates favorites are on the "pilatesonfifth" channel.

Another great thing if you're stuck at a desk all day long is to set a timer on your computer to go off every 20-30 minutes to remind you to stand up and stretch. Every hour I go for what I call a "building lap". I walk to the other end of the building, climb the five flights of stairs to the top, then take the elevator down (bad knees). I also make a point of getting out for a walk or run every day in the middle of the work day. Even if it's short, my achy body is so much happier for it!

Sitting for hours at a time without a break is soooo bad for humans, and other animals too! I recently read an article in Men's Health magazine on how sitting all day is slowly killing us. The research scientist they interviewed said that basically even if you work out 45 minutes a day, sitting all day still puts you in the "couch potato" classification. Here's a link to the article here:
