Does this make any sense?

Since joining this site about 2 weeks ago, I have really watched what I ate and started excercising. So far I have gained 1/2 lbs. :noway: My goal is around 1200 calories per day but as long as I am under 1500 I consider the day a success. I am trying hard to make those calories count and not just eating empty ones. I am excersing about 5-6 times a week for 30 to 45 minutes (usually walking on the treadmill at 3.5 mph). I am working towards getting back to jogging.
I have said all along that I am not so much worried about what the scale says and want to concentrate on how I feel and look. But I thought that I would see some drop. I did measure and have lost 1/2 inch in my waistline and 1/4 inch on my hips. I was happy about that.
Could I be building muscle at a rate that would cause the scale not to change even though I am starting to lose the inches?

Yes, it is most definitely possible to be packing on the muscle right now. It's happening to me, the scale is not moving in either direction but I am whittling away inches.
Make sure you are feeding your body properly with a good balance of carbs/protein/fat.
Keep it up and make sure you don't dip below 1200 cal a day. If that's your goal each day, you need to be calculating your exercise calories and eating those too, otherwise, you've actually taken in less than 1200 cal.0 -
welp, ive been on the site for a little over 2 months and have only lost about 7 pounds BUT i definitely believe that I am replacing fat with muscle (which weighs so much more) so definitely forget the scale if you can!0

Also.. be sure to check out the BMR section under the 'tools' icon. It will give you your basic metabolic rate.. how many calories your body burns a day to funtion. I was surprised to find that mine is only like 1700.. :noway: So in order to continue to lose weight, I certainly have to stay well below that number! It's different for everyone. I'm staying under 1200 as it is.. but if you start with the BMR.. it will certainly be an eye opener.0
