A common reason why you don't lose (quickly or at all)

I was eating a turkey salad from Subway for lunch when I thought about how low the posted calories are: 140. I didn't eat it with any additional dressings or croutons but chances are, the entire meal was a bit more than 140 calories. It all depends on how the individual makes it.
This compelled me to log in and remind everyone about a common mistake people make: People tend to underestimate calories you eat and overestimate calories burned. Especially when you're eating out or making food at home (anything outside of a packaged meal, which I hear aren't accurate either sometimes) it's hard to estimate how much you're really taking in.
Just a caution!

Well I think the key to combating that is not to estimate, but to measure.0

When cooking at home it is soooo important to measure EVERYTHING! My food scale and measuring cups and spoons never get put away, lol. It's OK to eat two portions of something (like cereal) as long as you count it as two portions. Measuring has really helped me to "eyeball" what's on my plate when I go out to eat too, and I always bump up the calories a little bit more to be on the side of caution. Example, when going to a steakhouse, the database says a six ounce sirloin is 350 calories, so I log it as an 8 oz sirloin at 400 calories.0

I use a smaller plate. That helps a lot! I also put the veggies on the plate first. I allow myself unlimited amount of veggies, but measure everything else. This enables me to feel full and stay within my caloric intake.0

When I go out to eat I pull the resaurant up on line to look at the menu. A lot of them are posting nutritional information as well. I know (or have a pretty good idea of) what I'm ordering when I walk in. When my meal comes I imediately ask for a to go box and put half of it way before I take the first bite.....Pays to plan ahead as much as possible.0
