I don't know if anyone else has had this problem.. but though I would ask and see.

I love my water bottle, however it is plastic and it sometimes gets a musty odor and I cannot get rid of it!! I sometimes use some backing soda and water and let it sit overnight, which helps, but I don't always remember to do this and sometimes forget. Has anyone else had this problem? And if so, how did you get rid of it? Thanks!!

I would get a stainless one. They're pretty cheap these days -- 4 or 5 bucks for a basic one. That musty odor tells you that there's bacteria hiding in the little crevices, and that's gross, IMO.

I alway wash mine with a little bleach and then rinse it a hundred times with scalding hot water.

I have two bottles that I rotate so that there's one in the dishwasher and one in use.

yeah, I put all of my plastic ones in the dishwasher.
  • you can get rid of the odour by sterilising the bottle, using milton, or any other liquid for sterilising babies bottles, also make sure when you store it, you leave it open. You should wash it in hot water pretty much every day, and then sterilise maybe once a month. Hope that helps

Wash mine often as well, but if I do leave it over night I try to leave the lid off, good luck!!
  • I bought some aluminum ones at a local salvage store for $2 each. NO MORE plastic bottles for me!
  • Vinegar and lemon juice. First soak in Vinegar. Rinse microwave it or 20-30 seconds with lemon juice (pure from the lemon) wth sliced up lemons in water. Let cool. Dump ou lemon mixture. S if it is better. If not repeat...

I didn't think of vinegar... I tried lemon last night and I think that helped. Thank you everyone who responded! I appreciate all the advice. I have been doing what some of you suggested, like leaving the lid off at night and I definitely wash it every day before I use it. I will try the sterilization also... I didn't think of that either. If, after doing these things, there is just no hope for my water bottle... then I may just get an aluminum one. Thanks again everyone :)

Listerine. Dump some in and shake it up. Lay the bottle on its side and turn it occasionally to make sure all the seams get soaked. With the lid on turn it upside down and let it sit a bit to make sure the threads and lip get it too. It should kill the bacteria and depending on your listerine it may "flavor" your bottle a little.
