Can I make this without the oil? I've heard that I can substitute applesauce for oil, but in cornbread? Any ideas would be great! Thank you!

No better way to find out than to try! See how it goes...I don't see why it wouldn't work.
I got this recipe from MFP for corn muffins, too, if you want to try (I haven't made them yet):
CORN MUFFINS
Ingredients
1/2 cup all-purpose flour (I used whole wheat)
1/2 cup cornmeal
3 tablespoons sugar (I used brown sugar)
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 egg
1 cup (8 ounces) sour cream (I used reduced fat, next time I might try Greek or plain yogurt instead)
Directions
In a large bowl, combine the flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking soda and salt. In another bowl, beat egg and sour cream; stir into dry ingredients just until moistened.
Fill greased muffin cups two-thirds full. Bake at 400° for 15-18 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool for 5 minutes before removing from pan to a wire rack to cool completely. Yield: 8 muffins.
Nutrition Facts (from original recipe, not with my changes): 1 serving (1 each) equals 147 calories, 6 g fat (4 g saturated fat), 47 mg cholesterol, 249 mg sodium, 18 g carbohydrate, 1 g fiber, 3 g protein0 -
I have not found that applesauce was a good substitute in this recipe. I love the corn bread, but I have dealt with the calories it already is at. I have not found a way to make it less calories and still taste good.0

I don't know if you can do it, but if you don't and use the oil, this cornbread has an INSANE amount of calories. Each square has 290 calories, the whole pan has 2600 calories.
It is delicious, but I will never ever eat that again \ö/0 -

What about using creamed corn?I use that and OMG it taste soo good and it's moist too..0
