Question??? Does it matter...

Does it matter what you eat as long as you stay under your calorie goal? The reason I ask is because I am a teacher and don't always have time to pack a lunch, so my other options are cafeteria food (not the healthiest thing) or some fast food places near my work place. I've been under my caloric goal just about everyday and I exercise 5 to 6 times a week, but I have had a small burger and only eat half the fries or I'll get fried chicken and take off all the skin.

I am not a big veggie eater or fish and I do get tired of salads. In other words, I am a picky eater and if I eat something I'm not crazy about I'll get sick to my stomach.

So I was wondering if I can still lose weight eating these things as long as I exercise and stay under my calorie goal.

I would think as long as you're not eating 1500 cals of pure sugar or fried foods all day long, you should be ok. I manage to have 2 sweet treats a day and even fries sometimes, and still do well. I think everything is fine in moderation, but you should try to keep your food pretty balanced throughout the day. Have a super healthy breakfast if you know lunch/dinner will be on the run.

aaaah, this is where I can go on forever---yes, to me it matters! I see too often people staying under their calorie goal; however, they are eating cookie, fast food hamburger, lots of processed carbs. If you want to make an overall healthy lifestyle change, these things in your life have to be changed as well.

Unfortunately I does matter. If you are not getting what you body needs and maybe eating too many carbs or empty calories it could stunt your weight loss. Make sure you are eating a balanced diet and getting enough lean protein and Iron.

    Good luck!
  • It doesn't really matter until you get into the low body fat range - that being said make sure you get enough protein and are working out or you will lose muscle (and won't be happy with your body no matter how small your are). Once you are in the 18-20% and lower range its probably time to start eating clean

I'm a teacher with a husband and four kids. for the last 30 I have brought my lunch to work. Sometimes there are lean cuisine, healthy choice, or progresso soup, sometimes leftovers, or a sandwich. I do it the night beofre and I plan for the week when I go to the grocery store on Sunday. It can be done if you want to. I know the pre packaged stuff may have higher sodium levels but I drink o ton of water and frankly my sodium is usually not above the level it should be.

I have tried that package stuff and my stomach can't handle it. Don't get me wrong I don't eat fast food on a daily basis, I'd say about twice a week maybe, the rest of the time I pack lunch. My hubby, kids, and I don't have a big dinner, usually salad or sandwich, so no left overs.

I have lost a total of 13lbs. (9 here on MFP and the other 4 on my own) in 4 weeks. Started off biking 3 miles and am up to 9.5 miles now. So I am doing pretty good. I was just worried that the occasional burger would halt my progress.

In my defense, I do order the wheat bun, no mayo, with light mustard and I drink lots of water, no sodas or juices, an occasional tea with Splenda and lemon. LOL!!!

Thank you all for your replies.
