Sooo... I had a bad weekend I weighed 91kg on Sat morning.... I then weighed myself on Monday morning and was just over 93 :( I know what I did wrong - too many carbs and sweet things, and I have worked hard to correct it)

I now weigh 90.5kg... it has shown I can do something serious when I put my mind to it... I really really want to get to my goal of 80 by May and I am scared about the weekends.

Weekends, hmmm for instance im going out to dinner for a friends birthday to a steak and pasta house...

How does everyone deal with weekends? Do you hibernate and go into hiding?

I just dont want to spend all week undoing the weekend, and I want to keep progressing the way I am.

Cheers

Sarah

just make the best choices! dont let peer pressure get to you either!...dont go crazy on sweet stuff and stay focused, only you can help you!
I stay focus everyday no matter what the calender says...I want to reach my goals asap:happy:
  • I work out first thing in the morning. This gets me going through out the day and I don't want to "undo" everything I did that morning. I still go out to dinner and hang out with family and friends. But I eat in moderation and try and make the best choices. I'm going to a steak house this weekend with the husband for valentines day and I'm already planning my meal. If its a chain restaraunt try and get their nutrional values before you go so you know what to order. If not, grilled chicken is usually on the menu  It's hard to resist but you can do it!
  • Hi Sarah

I used to have major problems with weekends as I get greater exposure to my wife's wonderful cooking?

Like tiff said ideally try and have a good breakfast and the do 30 minutes of good cardio exercise, as soon as possible after that, at lunchtime ensure that you limit yourself to really low calorie food with an aim of 300 cals max. Try to last till you go out to dinner, but if hungry snack on nuts, pulses, celery or low calorie fruit (in moderation). When it comes to your dinner if you can't order "half plates" at least make sure you eat little more than half plates and avoid sauces or dressings. As before drink plenty of water on weekends and especially before your main meals. Hope this helps and I just know you can do this, because you know the consequences if you don't. Lastly if you wake up Sunday morning and still find you have put on more than a Kilo then try to just have a grapefruit and again 30 minutes cardio exercise.

    Good Luck

Firstly I am trying to make sure I only weigh myself once a week.

I just want an overall weight, tracking every little fluctuation is too depressing and demotivating!!

I also plan my weekend meals in advance and try to buy in only what I need. If I buy any treats for the OH I make sure they are things I don't like myself so I am not tempted.

I do allow myself a few drinks over the weekend but I also try to work-out as much as possible (to 'earn' those extra calories!)

But it does take a lot of discipline and I do struggle at weekends (in fact the whole reason I am here is because I used to totally pig out at weekends and undo all my week day sensible eating - plus I gained 6lbs in 6 months!!)

I think that if you are strict with your calorie intake for at least 6 of the 7 days that one day should be alloted for a "cheat day". Saturday is my cheat day. I'll go eat at my favorite restaurant or make a home cooked meal that is fatty and delicious aka lasagna. I weigh myself once a week (Friday morning is my weigh in) that way I don't get discouraged. Now a cheat day doesn't mean go and eat 4000 cals in one sitting...but going over your daily calorie expenditure by a few hundred is not going to be the end of you. At some point we need the small indulgence, if you deprive yourself completely at some point you may relapse into unhealthy eating. It's not a bad idea also to do a morning workout if it really bothers you that much. For me personally though, Saturday is my free day...free of exercise and being strict on my calories.
  • Saturday is a tricky day for me too. My husband gets to choose what to have for dinner when we go to the supermarket, and cooks it. It's only fair, as I choose what to have all the rest of the week. Inevitably though, he'll choose something calorie- and fat-laden. Delicious, but just looking at it makes the pounds go on. I try to only have a small portion, but then end up hungry again an hour or so later and end up either snacking or starving until breakfast the following morning.

The worst part of trying to lose weight is other people being 'kind' or thoughtless. And unless you live like a hermit there's no getting away with it. Just be extra good the rest of the week and hope that's good enough :ohwell:

Thanks everyone for your input... Tonight at dinner, I drunk 3 glasses of water and 1 glass of pepsi max (no cocktails or wine!!) dinner I had a 200g fillet steak, corn on cob(with a small amount of butter) and a third of a baked potato... Steak meal came with an option of coleslaw or corn and either baked potato, mashed potato or fries... So I think. Made the right choice! I also had eaten a little bit less thru the day, and did a 50 minute session at the gym this morning!
  • Hi Sarah,

I think you should congratulate yourself for the great performance over the weekend, you knew it was going to be a struggle, but you set your stall out to combat the likely increase in calories, and by and large you stuck to it, and an increase of just 0.4 Kg will easily be addressed during the coming week. Well Done.

I on the other hand took no head of my own advice and paid the consequences!

Really p..sed off with myself, because despite all my advice re pigging out at the weekend, I gone and done it! We had relatives with us at the weekend as it was our anniversary, and had a family gathering on Saturday with a chinese cooked by my wife, with prawn tempura, satay sticks & spring rolls, followed by pavlova and sherry trifle. Didn't do any significant exercise, and to make matters worse hardly kept my portion size down for Sunday dinner and continued to gorge with sandwiches and cakes for Sunday tea. Forgive me MFP for I have sinned? Just means going to have to try harder this week, not going to be easy cos going out for a Valentines meal tonight? Up 2 lbs after the weekend of sin.

Hi--I generally do the same thing--my average calorie intake on weekends is quite a bit higher than during the week. I'm looking at the week as a whole though not day by day. Do you use the iphone app? There is a nice little graph that shows a weekly view of your net calories compared to goal and where you are under or over. I have been using that and try to make sure the calories even out to goal by weeks end. Typically this isn't tough because during the week I'm typically under the calorie goal.

You need to live and enjoy yourself and being able to let loose a little is important in making sure you stick with the program.

    Good luck!

This drives my husband crazy but I plan out my food for the day every morning. Sometimes I have to go back and change or tweak it but it usually stays about the same. I know what I'm going to eat and I try not to stray from my plan. It's been helpful for me on the weekends especially because if I'm bored or not active I tend to reach for a bag of chips or chocolate bar.
