I don't drink but wanted to add my two cents as tonic water is not a good choice. It has just as much added sugar as coke! Your best bet is to drink alcohol in moderation and use carbonated water/flat water as a mix.0

I don't have a good recommendation for hard alcohol, but I felt the need to respond to all the people hating on beer. Beer is actually reasonably low-calorie. A third of a liter Guinness (11 oz. for the Americans) is only 125 calories. Drinking hoppy pee is not worth the 60 fewer calories in my opinion. A bottle of the local dark lager is 147 calories. Beer is also fairly nutritious, containing large amounts of folate, which is good for reducing risk of heart disease. Plus you can nurse it, and, since it's not mixed, you actually know how much alcohol (and calories) you are consuming.
