Is it that when I hear somebody say "you need to put some meat on your bones" that I immediately feel like I need to do the opposite? All I really want to do is maintain (which is what I have been working at for over 6 mos. now) but stuff like this only makes me feel like I need to lose more. I feel like part of my brain is tweaked...does this make any sence to anyone else??

YES! My familly is constantly telling me I am too small and try to get me to eat more! I absolutely hate it and it makes me want to get smaller. I have no clue why xD

I find the same thing. People are always asking why I want to lose weight and that I'm fine as I am. I'm starting to realise that most of these people are unhappy about their bodies but don't have the motivation to do anything about it. :ohwell:
  • Reply, "Nah.. you just need to drop a few pounds." So, you won't make friends that way, but maybe it'll get their attention. Sorry, I'm in one of those moods tonight.

I was always "the skinny one" in my family and everyone constantly pointed it out. People that say things like that don't realize it can be just as damaging as calling someone "fat". I think now that I'm heavier, my family finally feels like I "fit in" with everyone. That's so not what I wanted. I'd be happy to be "the skinny one" again.

Now that I'm older, I probably would confront anyone that told me I needed to gain weight and ask them questions like why they think so.

Maybe it's because for your whole life you've equated negative comments with needing to lose weight, and you feel like that's the only way to quiet people, even if it's the opposite of what they are saying.

We all have different ideas of thin and healthy and beautiful. Have you ever heard the phrase, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder?" well, so is healthy. If you feel healthy, you are fine. I'm almost your height and I feel like 140 would be healthy for me, but I'm probably coming down from a much higher starting weight. I would be happy with 140 and you are happy at 115. That's okay.

Thanks ladies..I feel like part of what each of you is saying is true. Its soo screwed up tho! I don't go around telling people that they have too much meat on their bones. Why do people feel like it is okay to tell someone the opposite?!

I know that society is mean to fat people, but most people are also brought up with a sense of tact about judging fat people. For example, when I was a kid, I was popped on the cheek if I described somebody as fat or big, but when I was really little, adults would constantly say "you need to eat more." Honestly, to this day, I am guilty of yelling at my step-sons for criticizing a fat girl but always tell them to finish their food and that they are too thin!
