Ever since we moved in.. I have this weight issue. He is such a great cook, that it is impossible to replace a meal for soup. This is what I wanted to do last night. Wanted to have a bowl of warm soup for dinner. I do assist him in cooking, but he does the finishing off. He made awesome dishes yesterday. Even setup my plate. I couldn't say 'No'. This happens almost all night. At least, making the food, if not setting up my plate. And I have a habit of finishing off all on my plate. My mother had built this habit of ours. Now I don't know if this is good or bad. So, I end up having rich Indian food every night, instead of small snack or soups.
Girls go, Aaawwwwwwwwwweeeeeeeee..... you lucky girlie! Ya thats good, but.........
AAAAAAAwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!

Oh hon!!! I have SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO been here!

My husband and I enjoy cooking together, he's a fantabulous griller! BUT!!! I noticed that if he serves two plates one for me and one for him, we tend to be in the habit of making them "equal." The old one for you, one for me thing. I had been eating everything on my plate, and just as much as him. Ya know what? I got what I was going for...we almost weighed the same amount and I'm 9" shorter!!!

So talk to him, tell him how wonderful he is...and use my line, "If you want me to be half your size, then feed me half as much!"

I noticed I was also doing this with my kids...I have two kids a son 10, and my daughter 5. I was giving them each the same food for everything. If I want my daughter to be the size of a 10 year old boy, I was well on my way of doing that to her!!! Now I feed her 1/2 of everything I would give him. I even told her to tell me if I give her too much. Last night she reminded me, "Mom? I'm small, this is big like my brothers!" :noway: LOL OOPS!

Anyway...I totally am there with you sister!!! We just have to keep saying half me baby! :flowerforyou:

((Oh...and my husband still gives me too much sometimes, but now I just leave it on the plate...he sees it and it reminds him!"))
  • Don't worry, when you get married he'll stop cooking..... ahahaha j/k well not totally. My husband is a trained chef. He cooks all day therefore he never cooks at home. And when he does it isnt exactly the healthiest. Lots of french cuisine with heavy sauces YUM lol.

Yeah I know the clean your plate , make a happy plate , all the things we were told growing up. If he give you alot , split it in half , tell him you are saving half for lunch tomorrow :flowerforyou:

    Neha,

My girlfriend, who is indian, has been working on changing traditional meal with helathier ingrediants. I have eaten both versions of many of her dishes. I will tell you they are not exactly the same, BUT they are awfully close, and the healthy one tast great too!

Perhaps you two could work together, experimenting in the kitchen to develop healthier versions of your favorite Indian dishes?

    Good luck!

Thanks guys. I had no clue. Will try out this 'half it' trick.
My fiancé is South Indian.. means lots of rice, lots of rice. He doesn't have taste for North Indian food. But i am trying to push him to it.
Will try to make healthier versions, as well.
    Thanks a lot!

Buy him the Sonoma Diet Cookbook (Barnes and Noble bestseller) full of fabulous recipes, full of all the really good things for you, the essential oils, almonds, etc; plus really innovative recipes like Barley Risotto with fresh mushrooms; Broccoli sauteed with olive oil, garlic, pine nuts and a tad of red pepper..... You will love the recipes and he will love making them, they are THAT good.
