Help!!! Sunday Roast! xxx

Hi All!!
Having to make my gorgeous hubby the usual traditional roast dinner... as it is Sunday ....Chicken breast, roast potatoes, mash potato, parsnips, veg, stuffing, yorkshire pudding & gravy ....I really dont want to miss out lol :-(
Can anyone think of any alternatives or write me 2nights dinner! haha I will have around 400 calories to eat

I did it on Tuesday night when in laws were in town.
Its all about portion control heavy on the veggies on low on the meats.

ditto for above, also maybe have only 1 type of potato and no gravy--and just remember--it won't be the last time you will have the opportunity to eat those things--you're just choosing not to right now. It's all a learning experience.

I did a 2 hour walk this am that used 700 cals that i will be using for the roast I am cooking this evening. I will also be using frozen roasties as they are easier to count. If you can add the cals through a 2 hour 6 mile walk there should be room for pud!0

weigh everything before you put it on your plate, you'll be surprised just how much you can have, gravy has surprisingly few calories so Sunday lunch is a really healthy low in cals option.0

I put in what the roast will be in the diary the day before or that morning. Then what cals are left i choose breakfast & lunch. Dont forget what cals you use while exercising0

Hi there,
This is how I manage it...
Limit to 100g of the meat - make sure you get lean pieces too, no fat.
Only have 1 roast potato.
Mash is fine as long as you don't make it with butter and cream (Trust me, few will notice if it is just potatoes and a splash of milk)
Loads of veggies
1 small yorkshire pud
Splash of gravy
That will not be hugely over. As someone else mentioned - portion control is a big help!

*You can use sweet potatoes instead of mashed potatoes. They are naturally full of a lot of flavor but you can substitute butter for margarine and use spices instead of salt.
*You can bake chicken with a little bit of lemon/orange juice.
*Skip the stuffing and gravy. Substitute it with homemade apple sauce (boil apple pieces, drain, mash and add a little bit of artifical sweetner and cinnamon).
*Steam the veggies and either eat plain or with spices like basil or oregano.
Remember moderation is good. And it does not hurt to introduce your family to some healthy stuff along the way!

eat very small portions that way you can enjoy it also. try not to go too far over your calories or do a little more exercise if you do. Enjoy.0

I agree, it's all about portion control! I never have more than 100g of meat, and like someone else said, the leanest part. And loads of veggies! Make sure to weigh everything too, you will be surprised how much you can get for 400 calories!0

Thank you all for the great advice! I ended up going over and dinner totaling 518 cals which was fine! I had such a huge dinner aswell!! Really couldnt believe how much I could have for that amount of calories. Anyways.... Heres wat I had......
Tesco Value Sage & Onion Stuffing (Made without butter) 100g - 125cals
Mashed potatoes with Skimmed Milk - 1 Cup - 105cals
Sweet potato boiled without skin - 50g - 38cals
Chicken Breast, Meat Only, Roasted - 100g - 165cals
Tesco Mixed Veg - 100g - 70cals
Bisto Chicken Gravy Granules - 50mls - 15cals

You can find my sunday roast in my diary. Mine came to over 900 with soup and ice cream. Without the soup, ice cream and halving the meat and spuds it would have slipped under 400 :-) Well done on your result.0
