Hiya everyone

I have a problem. I live 250 miles away from my family and friends and am keeping this diet and exercising secret from them as I want to surprise everyone come summertime. My family are visiting in two days, and apart from hiding my weights and exercise DVDs, I need to keep it secret that I am controlling my calories. Does anyone have any smart hints and tips on how to make it look like I am not dieting? Thanks guys, and feel free to add me, always glad of a new friend ad :-)

First all, having family to encourage you may be a better motivator than a surprise.

Fill your plate with the better choices, smaller portions of the higher calorie stuff. Leave some on your plate. Don't worry about a day or two of missing your goal.

Firstly, don't see this as a 'diet' but rather a new lifestyle.

No need to hide it, just don't mention it. When you sit down to eat plan ahead so you know what and how much you'll be eating. If you end up eating out choose soup, salad, veggies and any lean meat. When it comes to dessert just say that you are stuffed.

If you don't draw attention to it they won't even realise. I'm sure the visit will be fine - enjoy.

I guess you want to surprise them on there next visit? That is fine, but dont worry to much about hiding your new healthy lifestyle. Embrace and you will find a way to make it through this visit. Both of the above are good suggestions.
    1. Plan ahead if possible,
    2. eat a salad before meal
    3. eat half your plate, take the rest home
    4. Skip or share dessert, with them eating more
    5. Drink plenty of water
    6. At if all else fails, say you have tummy ache...
    6. Enjoy yourself and your visit..
  • While I agree for the most part about not hiding your healthy new lifestyle, I can totally understand the want to surprise them this summer. You could always claim something last night "did not agree with you" and your that stomach hurts. Thay way, they won't worry about you being sick, but not eating what they are used to seeing you eat won't stand out too much.

    Good luck!

I love your idea! They are going to be so surprized to see you! How long are they visiting? You could say something that your stomach hurts, or that you think you may be a little sick. That way when you don't eat as much, or healthier, they may not notice. And then when you talk to them later, just tell them you're feeling better so they don't worry :)

    Good luck!
  • Thanks everyone for your support and ideas :drinker: , as I am with them all for nearly a week :smooched: , I think I might go with the 'dodgy tummy' option  , I really don't want to tell them what I'm up to. I will let you know how I get on, and if I get rumbled!

Tell them you've been having an occasional problem with heartburn and have learned that you can control it with a few minor modifications to your diet. That way you don't have to pretend to have a tummy ache during their visit.
