I know you're supposed to eat protein after a vigorous workout, but how many grams are you supposed to eat?

  • Well, I am not exactly sure however I know that alot of people drink some type of Protein Shake afterward. I drink 100% whey protien, which I think is about 27g in one serving.

The number really depends on your body composition but no one can digest more than 35 g of protein in one setting. My recovery shake has 24 g and that is pretty standard for most shakes, so maybe use that as a comparison point.

Try to eat .7 -1g for every pound of lean muscle mass (your goal weight is a good place to start, but that would be the upper end) in a day. How you ration it out is up to you. Just make sure you get a good source of protein after working out. Go gung ho on a chicken breast or some sea food :)

I usually have about 25g straight after a workout in the form of a protein shake. Over the whole day I aim for 100g.

I made a smoothie out of a scoop of protein powder, a small banana and 8oz of 2% milk after my run today. But that was after a 7 mile run and total elapsed time of 90 mins when you count my warm up and cool down.

I just drink a soy protein shake made with soy milk, I think I get around 20 grams of protein from it.
