My hubby and I do not make a big deal of out Valentines Day, but we would like to make something out of it. We have a ten year old daughter and 3 year old twin boys, and no sitter. Any suggestions on what we could do at home after the kids go to bed to try to make it a little more special than normal?

Dim the lights, snuggle up and watch a movie.

I am making a candlelight dinner with 2 small filet mignons, and some sauteed scallops with steamed veggies---the kids are not involved--get the 10-year-old to watch after them----put them to bed early---and enjoy each other's company!

We have a Valentine's day tradition in our house that my kids look forward to all year. We have dinner by candlelight, with the good dishes and linens. We always have dessert (which we don't on a normal day) and we drink out of wine glasses. I usually buy the kids non-alcoholic champagne but even if you don't, milk is definitely more fancy out of a wine glass. I always give the kids a little valentine's day token. This year I bought them each a box of heart shaped chocolates, but in the past when I was 'financially challenged" I made each of them a placemat out of construction paper (with hearts, cupids, etc. ) and I wrote all the things I love about them on their own placemat. (i.e....Sydney is super smart, Dylan is great at making people smile, Janelle is a fantastic helper with her sister...etc)
    Have a great evening!
  • My husband did this for me one year...we had the kids at home...he turned our living room into a cozy candle lit restaurant. He set up a card table with a table cloth and flowers, tea lights and candles everywhere, he hand dipped strawberries for appetizers, we ate dinner, drank champange and had desert, all with some music in the background, he bribed the kids with little boxes of chocolate and had the big kids watching the little ones....then retired to the bedroom. (Granted we did have an interruption or two...lol) But you could totally pull this off. I think the kids helped to dip the strawberries, and set up the "restaurant"...so they were excited to help too.

I have 4 kids and we plan on having dinner and chocolate fondue with fresh fruit for dessert. The fresh fruit keeps the calories down:wink: Then going to watch a movie together.
