I joined MFP a few months ago, but let stress and life get in the way. Two weeks ago I decided that there were no more excuses...I have a 4 year old daughter that I want to see get married and start a family of her own. I am 5'1" and weigh 241....not healthy at all.
My nsv is that after changing my eating lifestyle and getting rid of the 6-pack of diet coke a day habit (and never any water) several things have happened:

1. Within 4 days of no diet coke or soda of any kind (only water and a coffee) I can now look down and only see my boobs.....before I would see boobs then stomach.

2. I now sleep 8 hours a night....I have not done that since I was a kid. Before I would be exhausted at the end of the day, but not able to sleep. I averaged around 4-5 hours of a night waking up several times during the night. Now I am tired in a healthy way and fall right to sleep and don't wake up once during the night. To me this is Amazing!

3. I am much more alert all day long and a much happier person as well. I just wake up feeling great and the feeling lasts all day long.

4. My pants are falling off of me....really just falling off!

My biggest obstacle starting this was not knowing what to cook....I lived on McDonalds, Arbys, etc. and so did my daughter. All I could think of healthy to eat was grilled chicken and broccoli. Another MFP member mentioned recipes on a site called Sparkpeople.com I checked it out and they have a great section for recipes that are "graded" by other members. Now I have so many dishes that I want to prepare I am like a kid in a candy store. The food I am making now is 1000% healther and tastier than what I lived on before. Whites are out for me and I try to concentrate on more natural foods, things I make. I used to say I didn't have time to cook....single mom, business owner etc. but my daughter is enjoying this adventure with me trying out a new recipe every day.
I just wanted to share how wonderful I feel right now, so soon after starting my journey. The battery in my scale is broken (a good thing) but I go to the doctor Wed and will find out my weight. To be honest, that # doesn't matter....I FEEL like I've lost 20 lbs!!

Best of luck to you all on not only weight loss, but the joy of living!

that sounds amazing for sure. Great job on your success. And even if that number on the scale hasn't moved yet (which i am sure it has) you are still way more healthy than you were before. I am so very proud of you for teaching your daughter the healthy way to live. You are a winner!!!

Congrats!!! You are doing an amazing job! Another site for recipes is www.eatbetteramerica.com. They have tons of great "healthified" recipes on there.
  • Congratulations to you! I also kicked a soda habit in January, and let me tell you... makes a world of difference! Way to go!

That is great! Glad things are going well. Feel free to add me as a friend so we can go on this journey together and support each other. I have done well with recipes from that site as well (there is an iPhone app for that) and I also use a couple of diabetic cookbooks I bought (the hubs is diabetic). Those recipes are great as well. ;)
