I have been with MFP for a long time, but never really used it. I finally recently decided to do something about being overweight. I have been working hard the last 2 weeks, eating all the right things, stopped drinking endless diet coke, exercising and recording on MFP. I have lost 7lbs in 2 week.
Today I feel like I want some chocolate, but my diet says no. I am afraid it will be like an addiction, if I have just one, it will be all over with. I will go back to craving it all the time and eating it as well. I have no will power.

do what you feel is right; but knowing that you've lost 7 pounds already - you know that you can control the chocolate, it doesn't control you.

First of all, congratulations on your 7 lb loss! I think the chocolate yells our names out more often than not!! The thing that has helped me the most in the last 7 weeks when this happens is to make myself understand before I eat a piece of chocolate, that it is the ONLY piece I'm going to have. I also have little will power, but I'm learning that it's okay if I don't eat the whole bag of chocolates! Sometimes I'll have 3 chocolate kisses, drink some water and leave the area. Within 5 minutes, I'm satisfied and moving on to something else (out of the kitchen). I think if you train yourself to think one moment at a time in this case, it will get easier. Don't think that it's all going to be overwith. Tell yourself you are worth one, but only one piece :) Just try it! Be sure to log whatever you have though! Best wishes:flowerforyou:

Thanks everyone. I appreciate your feedback.
  • Definitely a big high five goes out to you. Well done on the 7 pounds.

I think it is much easier if you remember that this is a transition period that you are in and that you have to start by making little changes... once you have tackled one area, you can then move on to the next.

You've already changed from soda to water (a massive step). Next try cutting out all caffeine (I did and believe me it was easier said than done, I had a headache for five days non-stop).

Finally try cutting down on chocolate without going cold turkey.

I have never really understood why people have a 'diet'. Diets are not designed for you to succeed, they are part of a big money industry and they make that money by seeing you fail.

MFP isn't a diet, it's a tool to help you control your eating and your relationship with food. If you use it like a tool, recording honestly what you eat, it will be much easier to make little changes and creating a new lifestyle for yourself.

Good luck and remember you don't need will power. You only need to be honest and confront the things you find difficult, one tiny food choice at a time.

If you need us, let us know... we are definitely all in this together.
  • Congrats on those 7lbs. that is fantastic. I have only just joined last week but any success I've had in the past revolved around telling myself what I should have instead of what I shouldn't so I try to focus on what should be going into my body. Telling myself I shouldn't have chocolate is only going to make me want chocolate!!! I don't even know if that makes sense and clearly you are doing something right!! Keep it up!
